Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust are
looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated registered nurses and healthcare
professionals to work within our SEQOHS Accredited Occupational Health, Safety
and Wellbeing Services
based at QA Hospital, Portsmouth and has been established for over 25 years.
Our
clinical team play a vital role in looking after more than 8,500 PHU staff,
from preplacement assessments at the start of employment, vaccinations and
immunisations, serology,
management of sharps and
contamination incidents, management referrals, health surveillance, occupational medicals, biological
monitoring as well in
addition to delivering as running
the PHU annual flu and covid
vaccination campaigns and a variety of many
other health campaigns throughout the year for mental health and
wellbeing campaigns throughout the year.
You will be working in a friendly
and supportive multidisciplinary team which includes health and safety, manual
handling, mental health and health and wellbeing, all playing a crucial role in
providing a compassionate and professional service that is instrumental in the
care of our PHU staff and external clients.
Main duties of the job
To work as the Clinical Lead for the Health
Safety and Wellbeing Service to ensure delivery of an effective, evidence-based,
multi-disciplinary service. Working closely with the Lead Nurse and Operational
Clinical Managers at Queen Alexandra Hospital (QAH) to ensure a safe, high quality
service is provided to the Trust and to external clients in line with SEQOHS
accreditation (Safe Effective Quality Occupational Health Service).

- To
promote good occupational medicine within the Trust and act as an ambassador
for the department.
- To
provide occupational medical advice to the management and staff of the Trust,
other NHS organisations and contracted private customers as appropriate.
To
advise managers and staff with regard to:
- Suitability
for employment and fitness for work.
- Sickness
absence and rehabilitation programmes.
- Medical
retirement cases.
- Hazards
related to work and risk reduction.
- Health
surveillance including identification of the need for medical examination of
new employees, immunisations, screening for employees at special risk,
statutory medical examination and clinical assessments for fitness to work.
- Associated
legislative requirements and good practice.
- Related
policies and procedures relevant to occupational health.
- To
liaise with professional colleagues, managers and specialists such as
Microbiology, Infection Prevention, GPs and other treatment providers to ensure
an effective service is provided.
- Be
responsible for the development, drafting and review of relevant Health and
Safety policies, Standard Operating Procedures and Written Instructions, share
with the senior management teams and submit through appropriate channels for
approval and publication.
- To
lead clinical audit within the department and to advise on nursing audit in
line with SEQOHS requirements and ensure that changes are implemented in a
timely manner.
- To
take the lead for clinical supervision for the senior nursing team establishing
requirements, developing, planning and leading bi-monthly clinical supervision
sessions for the nursing team.
- To
support Occupational Medicine trainees working within the department on
placement as part of their development in agreement with other organisations.
- To
attend relevant committees on an occasional basis if required e.g. Health and
Safety Committee or Formulary and Medicines Committee.

- Has obtained, is in the process of obtaining or willing to undertake Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
