Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust are
looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated registered nurses and healthcare
professionals to work within our SEQOHS Accredited Occupational Health, Safety
and Wellbeing Services
based at QA Hospital, Portsmouth and has been established for over 25 years.
Our
clinical team play a vital role in looking after more than 8,500 PHU staff,
from preplacement assessments at the start of employment, vaccinations and
immunisations, serology,
management of sharps and
contamination incidents, management referrals, health surveillance, occupational medicals, biological
monitoring as well in
addition to delivering as running
the PHU annual flu and covid
vaccination campaigns and a variety of many
other health campaigns throughout the year for mental health and
wellbeing campaigns throughout the year.
You will be working in a friendly
and supportive multidisciplinary team which includes health and safety, manual
handling, mental health and health and wellbeing, all playing a crucial role in
providing a compassionate and professional service that is instrumental in the
care of our PHU staff and external clients.
Main duties of the job
- To lead and co-ordinate the Critical Incident
Stress Management Service within Portsmouth University Hospitals Trust taking
responsibility for reviewing the Standard Operating Procedure and processes to continue
to develop and deliver this project and manage the service established.
- Provide strong professional clinical and managerial
leadership to nursing staff and act as a professional role model.

Job responsibilities
Clinical/Professional
- Market, recruit and appoint suitable candidates to
undertake the CISM training from a variety of staff groups across all divisions
ensuring the commitment from line managers and staff to undertake 6 sessions of
CISM facilitation per year.
- Establish a marketing campaign with the Comms team
to ensure staff and managers are aware of CISM and how to access peer support
in a timely manner.
- Lead the delivery of CISM across the Trust
utilizing trained peer facilitators.
- Promote and set high standards of clinical care and
maintain the delivery of a quality service within the trust following policies,
protocols and guidelines. Implement the
trust values and beliefs ensuring they are embedded into everyday practice
and evaluate their impact on the clients experience.
- Motivate staff by giving clear direction and
setting achievable objectives relating to mental health matters.
- Assist in the management manage the mental health
workload related to the triage of management referrals due to mental health issues in line
with NMC code of Professional Conduct.
- Work with the Mental Health Nurse Manager to lead plan
and support mental health wellbeing events including appropriate communication
and promotion trust wide.
- Maintain a high visible presence within the
clinical area ensuring that the Health Safety & Wellbeing Service (HSWS)
have access to advice from senior staff at all times. Act as an effective professional role model
and expert clinician.
- Contribute to the department philosophy to ensure
that all policies and procedures are implemented and ensure the development of mental
health nursing practice. Ensure that all
staff understand the significance of this philosophy to practice, monitoring
its impact on the client experience.
- Ensure that all nursing issues relating to the
implementation of quality and safety are addressed in the department. This
includes monitoring and evaluating standards of care by the clinical team and
providing regular feedback to the HSWS on the standards of mental health and
wellbeing matters.
- Implement evidenced based practice, initiate,
manage and evaluate changes that lead to improved and high standards of care
and in particular any service changes following feedback about the service.
- Communicate, influence and work with the
multidisciplinary team in different ways to improve quality of care and inform clinical
decisions. Promote innovation and participate in benchmarking and quality
audits to measure effectiveness of current practices in line with SEQOHS (Safe
Effective Quality Health safety & Wellbeing Service).
- In collaboration with members of the
multidisciplinary team, ensure that the users of the service have a positive
experience and using feedback (Staff Surveys, Family and Friends Test, concerns
and complaints) evaluate processes and review as required.
- Create a culture for learning and development that
will sustain person-centered safe and effective care.
- Lead the team in different ways, by supporting
junior colleagues; facilitate learning in and from practice at the same time as
working alongside; or undertaking a review when an incident/error or complaint
has occurred.
- Ensure that accurate and timely HSWS clinical records
are maintained, monitoring standards and taking corrective action as required.
- Ensure all staff in the clinical area are competent
in advising appropriately with regard to mental health. This will be achieved
by having access to training and monitoring compliance.
Management/Leadership
- Ensure an
effective service is provided to Portsmouth University NHS Trust (PHU) and
external clients in line with SEQOHS standards
- Develop activity
reports relating to mental health support and CISM activity identifying how
improvements in absence can be made and provide quarterly to the seniors
meeting.
- Manage an
independent clinical caseload in relation to PHU and external clients who
attend QAH clinics.
- Support HR
and managers in the proactive management of mental health absence identifying
areas where referrals are ineffective, delayed or repeated unnecessarily.
- Actively
contribute to achieving the clinical governance goals/targets set by the trust
and department and comply with reporting schedules for monitoring and reporting
on clinical outcomes.
- Be
proactive in the prevention and management of complaints and when they occur
investigate and respond in a timely manner. Unresolved complaints of a serious nature
will need to be escalated to the Mental Health Nurse Manager for further
investigation. Use any learning to share widely with the multidisciplinary team
and to improve service delivery.
- Responsible
for the management of staff performance and attendance within sphere of
responsibility in line with trust policies.
- Promote
the health and well-being of staff.
- Comply
and promote compliance with Trust policies and guidelines e.g. Health and
Safety, Clinical Risk and Infection Control.
Research
- Contribute to a research culture within the nursing

Education
- Participate in the development of a mental health training
plan for the HSWS ensuring continuing professional development and clinical

training and related programs including the review and updating of stress
management liaising with HR and counselling as required.

all staff within sphere of responsibility have an annual personal development
