Job summary

A new fixed term Principal Clinical Scientist post has been created to lead the test and instrument verification program for Chemistry as part of the transformation to the new Synnovis Hub and ESL operating model for South East London. We are looking to recruit an experienced Clinical Scientist with an interest in method verification and implementation of new instruments. The transformation to a Hub and ESL is an extensive project across the network and requires the introduction of multiple instruments in collaboration with Abbott, Diasorin and Thermofisher.

The main duties will be the development and delivery of a program of verification to meet the go live date of 1st April 2024. The successful candidate will work with a wide range of Synnovis colleagues to harmonise and consolidate the approach to method verification in the Hub and ESL model. The candidate will be based at the new Blackfriars hub laboratory from July 2023.

This would be an ideal opportunity to develop experience with method verification. The role would be available as a secondment for internal Synnovis employees or as a fixed term role for external candidates. Main duties of the job

The main duty of the role is to lead the verification program to achieve UKAS accreditation to ISO15189:2022.

The successful candidate will develop and deliver the verification plan for the extensive test menu planned for Floor 2 of the Synnovis Hub. These instruments will provide testing across chemistry, immunology, and virology laboratory areas. The post holder will produce verification reports in collaboration with Scientific leads for each area and report progress to the Synnovis Transformation program team. You will also need to identify alternative methods or actions when verification data does not meet expected standards or targets.

The role will require liaison with stakeholders and subject matter experts across the organisation and ensure that all documentation and materials meet UKAS ISO1589 standard.

About us

The successful candidate will be expected to use Validation Manager by Finbiosoft to complete analysis and reporting of the verification results. Synnovis will provide full training and support with this application.

Essential

  • MSc or equivalent in Clinical Biochemistry
  • HCPC Registration as a Clinical Scientist

Desirable

  • Relevant PhD or an equivalent record of research publications
  • Part 1 Examination for Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of test and instrument verification procedures and requirements
  • Experience of designing an analytical quality assurance programme
  • Experience in routine and specialist Biochemistry and Endocrinology

Desirable

  • Experience of presenting complex scientific and clinical information at local and national meetings

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to analyse highly complex clinical information and use to evaluate differential diagnoses
  • Able to advise medical and nursing staff on investigations and interpretations of biochemical and metabolic processes
  • Able to analyse complex scientific data and present findings in writing within the laboratory
  • Comprehensive understanding of analytical techniques, including undertaking complex analytical procedures
