Job summary

The Driver/Doctors Assistant is a key member of staff whose role is to support operational effectiveness of the NEMS CBS In and Out of Hours services.

The main purpose of this role is to work with all Operational Staff to ensure efficient and effective:

Transport of GPs between NEMS sites and patients home locations

Provide reception duties at NEMS sites as/when required.

Undertake responsibility checks, i.e. Vehicle and Equipment checks in preparation for a home visit.

Work closely with our other sites under NEMS CBS

Job responsibilities

Main Duties of The Job:

1 Organisational Management

To provide an efficient and professional transport service for GPs in a NEMS vehicle to and from patients homes.

Provide patient transport as/when required.

To liaise will staff in base Clinical and non-clinical and follow instructions given by the Despatch and the Shift Lead throughout shift.

To maintain the NEMS fleet, interior and exterior.

Conduct daily vehicle checks to ensure the vehicle complies with the requirements of the law. To report immediately any defects of a vehicle in which may cause delay in service and agree to make alternative arrangements with Line Manager and/or Shift Lead.

Assist in journey scheduling as necessary.

To conduct thorough and regular checks on the Driver Equipment, and re-place equipment close in expiry or re-stock to ensure quantity standards.

Comply with regulations in respect of drivers hours and maintain the highest standard of conduct at all times.

Conduct Telephone Checks at Platform One to ensure phone lines are in working order before entering the OOH period.

Maintain strict confidentiality in relation to the entire medical and business affairs of NEMS and comply with all statutory requirements in connection with data protection.

Provide a courier service between all NEMS sites and other NHS sites where required. Including transportation and delivery of medicines, equipment when requested.

Deliver reception duties wherever required and have oversight of patients within the waiting rooms.

Management of COSHH chemicals as required.

To chaperone GPs on home visits and assisting with patient care if requested

To support with shadow training as/when required.

To support GPs using Toughbooks when out on home visits.

Any other duties as reasonably requested.

First line management is undertaken by the Operational Service Managers. Transport Manager

3 Strategic Activities and Service Improvements

Be proficient in use of Adastra software in car to receive & complete calls.

Give prompt and regular attendance at work; observe detailed procedures and rules applicable to the role. Prepare adequately before arriving for duty, including having sufficient rest.

Comply with requests to carry out mandatory training in a reasonable time frame.

4 Patient Experience

Confidentiality in the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.

5 Service Finances

To be entrusted with company funds to obtain goods and services as required.
