The Nurse Manager will have ultimate responsibility
for management of nursing care and of other specified resources devolved to be
within the post holders control within the fertility clinic. All
responsibilities are enacted in line with the policies, procedures and terms
and conditions laid down by the Clinic.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be a NMC registered nurse and will have the clinical skills and experience required to perform and interpret the findings from a wide range of highly skilled procedures used in the monitoring of patients during treatment, and nurse management of their care. The post-holder will have experience of managing an area of service and directing staffing, processes and policy. They will be expected to direct training programmes, and to oversee the development of new and improved clinical procedures and practice within the Clinic.

Specific ResponsibilitiesClinical
- Act as a role model as a Fertility Nurse Specialist and be accountable for own actions.
- Supervise nursing staff in the delivery of care/treatments ensuring all staff are compliant with clinic procedures and protocols.
- Ensure the rights, dignity, privacy and confidentiality of the patients are protected at all times in accordance with the relevant Acts of Parliament.
- Communicate with patients, ensuring they receive adequate and concise information and act as the patients advocate, referring patients to the counselling service if required.
- Ensure all telephone and e-mail enquiries are dealt with in a timely and professional manner.
- Develop and Maintain agreed standards of care to ensure that the delivery of the care is to the highest standard.
- Review any clinical complaint / incident with the full nursing team to ensure lessons are learnt and process/behavioural changes are made if appropriate.
- Supervise the co-ordination of treatment cycles plans ensuring that all documentation is complete and meets regulatory standards.
- Implement programmes of patient care planned by the medical staff.
- Teach and guide patients in the administration of their drugs.
- Communicate effectively to the wider multi-disciplinary team in an appropriate manner, including participation in weekly audit and planning meetings.
- To be involved in direct patient care (i.e. theatre procedures, recovery, ultrasound scans, sedation, phlebotomy).
- Take part in an out of hours on-call rota for queries by patients. Is also available for out of hours treatments as required.
Managerial
- Manage the day to day running of clinics.
- Supervise, plan and ensure the safe level of nursing cover for all planned procedures, clinics and on-call.
- Take action to resolve work force deficits.
- Have an active role in nurse staff recruitment.
- Plan, control and record annual / study / sick leave.
- Monitoring and maintain adequate stock levels within an agreed budget.
- Control and ensure safe handling of all fertility medication.
- Co-ordinate an appraisal system for nursing staff, ensuring performance is monitored on a regular basis and recorded.
- Attend departmental meetings and cascade information to nursing staff.
- Chair nurse meetings ensuring all nurses are informed of relevant. information, ensure meetings are transparent and minuted.
- Attend and speak at Patient Open / Support evenings.
