Job summary

We currently have an excellent opportunity for a qualified Nurse Associate to join our successful clinical team at Brockwood Medical Practice.

The ideal candidate will have a strong enthusiasm for working in primary care and possess outstanding clinical skills.

Main duties of the job

The Nurse associate will provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients within the primary care setting.

The role focuses on delivering chronic disease management, preventive health services, health promotion, and supporting the wider multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of the practice population.

The successful candidate will be part of the friendly team at Brockwood Medical Practice and will receive appropriate training, support and supervision.

They will assist with education and support of other healthcare professionals as appropriate.

Job Purpose

The Nursing Associate is a member of the primary care nursing team who works under the direction of Registered Nurses and GPs to deliver highquality, compassionate, and patientcentred care. The role bridges the gap between Healthcare Assistants and Registered Nurses, supporting clinical workstreams, longterm condition management, health promotion, and routine patient care.

Key Responsibilities

A. Clinical Responsibilities

Carry out a wide range of delegated clinical duties within the scope of practice, including:

  • Wound care and dressings
  • Basic health checks (e.g., blood pressure, BMI, pulse)
  • Phlebotomy
  • ECG recording
  • Urinalysis and simple diagnostic tests
  • NHS Health Checks (within competency)

Support chronic disease monitoring under supervision, such as:

  • Blood pressure reviews
  • Asthma/COPD annual reviews (baseline data collection)
  • Diabetes recall and structured assessments

Administer immunisations and vaccinations (if trained and signed off), including:

  • Seasonal influenza
  • COVID19 (dependent on training)
  • Routine adult immunisations

Support cervical screening by assisting with admin/recall (if not screening trained).

Provide personalised care and support, including lifestyle advice, smoking cessation, and health promotion.

B. Patient Support & Health Promotion

  • Promote self-management and wellbeing in line with personalised care principles.
  • Offer evidence-based lifestyle guidance on diet, physical activity, alcohol use, and smoking.
  • Participate in national and local public health initiatives.

C. Professional Practice & Governance

  • Work within the NMC Code and the Nursing Associate Standards of Proficiency.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records using practice clinical systems (EMIS/SystmOne).
  • Follow practice policies on safeguarding, infection prevention, medicines management, and coldchain protocols.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement activities, and significant event reviews.

D. Team Working

  • Work collaboratively with Registered Nurses, GPs, HCAs, pharmacists, paramedic practitioners, and the wider MDT.
  • Escalate concerns, abnormal findings, or deteriorating patients promptly to a senior clinician.
  • Contribute to practice meetings, planning, and service development.

E. Personal & Professional Development

  • Maintain NMC registration and complete annual CPD/revalidation requirements.
  • Engage in mandatory training and clinical upskilling.
  • Work towards developing competencies for enhanced tasks where agreed (e.g., long-term condition management clinics, cervical cytology).

General Duties

  • Maintain high standards of infection control and cleanliness.
  • Ensure patient dignity, privacy, and respect at all times.
