Main duties of the job

As an IT Technician, you'll play a key role in maintaining the DHC digital infrastructure that underpins patient care.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include installing and configuring hardware and software, troubleshooting network and connectivity issues, supporting clinical systems, managing user accounts, and ensuring IT equipment runs smoothly across all our departments.

To succeed, you'll need strong technical knowledge of Windows environments, networks, and IT security, along with excellent problem-solving skills.

You should be organised, detail-oriented, and able to communicate effectively with both technical teams and frontline healthcare staff. A proactive approach and the ability to prioritise under pressure are essential.

JOB LOCATION

Primarily Dorking Hospital with travel to other DHC locations as required.

JOB SUMMARY

To deliver an exceptional service for DHC working to support staff, contractors and management. Working closely with the IT Manager but also using own initiative and being proactive, managing, prioritising, planning and organising own time, using and developing extensive knowledge, skills and experience.

This role will proactively provide IT desktop and telephony support throughout the organisation and ensure the Information Technology is maintained to a high standard and monitored. We work across multiple sites within Surrey and travel to these locations will be required to provide IT support and set up.

Ensure the IT infrastructure remains functional, secure and up to date including servers and networking. Ensure telephony solutions meet the needs of all parts of the DHC team.

Administer systems to ensure staff are set up correctly to use required IT and telephony equipment and related software solutions appropriate to their roles. This will include ensuring appropriate steps are taken for staff joining and leaving as well as changing roles within DHC.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST

Main duties and responsibilities of the post:

Day to day responsibilities

  • Work with the IT Manager on the operational management of IT systems (to include liaising with external bodies), at DHC on a day-to-day basis including training thereof for new employees. (Appropriate training will be provided for all IT systems and processes).
  • To install, configure, and test new hardware and software according to DHC policies including medical devices.
  • Maintenance and Support of hardware equipment including the removal and management of replaced equipment.
  • Perform basic network troubleshooting, patching, replacing switches etc.
  • Fixing equipment, including printers, scanners and other computer peripherals, as needed.
  • Support remote working practices and enable where necessary.

Developing the IT provision

  • Assisting in testing of applications to ensure that the systems developed meet the business needs. Work on developments to existing software systems.
  • Undergo site surveys to assess the need for additional/replacement IT equipment and/or network infrastructure changes.
  • Contribute to ongoing projects as required, such as penetration and vulnerability testing
  • Develop or enhance networking skills across the DHC LAN/WAN.
  • Assisting in testing of applications to ensure that the systems developed meet the business needs. Work on developments to existing software systems.

Data Security and record keeping

  • Updating and maintaining accurate records included the IT asset register.
  • Support regular IT reporting requirements on operational areas within DHC
  • Manage access permissions, ensuring only authorised users have access to sensitive information.
  • Keep up to date with evolving cyber security risks and support the implementation of new security measures.

Communication and relationships

  • Communicate effectively with a range of people at different levels of the organisation.
  • Act as the IT departments representative in both internal and external meetings.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with third party providers, and the wider NHS digital teams.

Personal development

  • Participate in reflection, self-evaluation and continuous professional development including performance review. Ensure mandatory training is up-to-date at all times.

ORGANISATIONAL POSITION

The IT Technician will work across the entire DHC organisation, reporting to the IT Manager, who in turn reports to DHCs Outpatients Service Manager and the COO.

INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to DHC policies and procedures and relevant legislation including the requirements of any professional bodies attend mandatory training as identified by DHC. Be particularly aware of the importance of Equality and Diversity, ensuring that all colleagues, patients, clients and visitors are dealt with in line with DHC policy.
