Job summary

DHC Talking Therapies is seeking Advanced High Intensity Counsellors, ideally PCE-CfD qualified, to join our established and thriving team. This blended clinical and leadership role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to both patient care and service development.

In this role, you will work closely with the Service Manager, Clinical Lead, Team Leads and Locality Managers. Youll support service improvements while maintaining a strong clinical focus. The role includes a small counselling caseload and providing high-quality supervision to colleagues.

You will be an inspiring, supportive leader, able to develop others and help ensure the delivery of effective, evidence-based psychological interventions. Youll also join the duty manager rota to support clients and therapists with clinical queries, including risk management.

A key part of the role involves building and maintaining strong relationships across the system, especially with Primary Care Networks (PCNs), to support integrated, community-based service delivery.

Main duties of the job

As part of our dynamic Talking Therapies service comprising both remote and on-site therapists you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Full qualification in your therapeutic modality and full accreditation in accordance with the requirements outlined in the NHS Talking Therapies Manual.
  • A developed understanding of PCE-CfD competencies.
  • Substantial post-qualification clinical experience supporting individuals with mental health difficulties within a primary care setting.
  • Well-developed skills in the assessment and management of clinical risk.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical

  • To undertake specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the service, using appropriate interpretation and integration of complex data from a range of sources. The post-holder will maintain a clinical caseload, including more complex cases, drawing on advanced theoretical and practical expertise.
  • The clinical work involves managing a variety of presentations, including more complex cases. The role requires the communication of complex and sensitive information, and the ability to challenge deeply held beliefs or behaviours. This necessitates a high level of emotional resilience, sensitivity, and sound judgement in managing information, delivering interventions, and supporting meaningful change. All treatment should be evidence-based and aligned with NICE guidelines and the NHS Talking Therapies Manual.
  • To carry out risk assessments and manage risk appropriately for individual clients. The post-holder will also provide general and specialist advice on psychological risk management to NHS Talking Therapies clinicians, with the support of the Team Lead and Clinical Lead as needed.
  • To make sound, evidence-based decisions regarding risk and to support therapists who require urgent supervision.
