We have an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, enthusiastic and self-driven pharmacy technician to join our Primary Care Network in Redhill Phoenix PCN in Reigate. The post holder will be part of our growing pharmacy team across the PCN and wider DHC federation.

The post holder will help support safe systems of prescribing and promote medicines optimisation, working as part of a friendly and dynamic team. The work is varied with a range of drug monitoring and medicines safety activities alongside opportunities to work directly with patients.

The role is pivotal to improving the quality of care and operational efficiencies so self-motivation and passion to deliver excellent service within general practice is essential.

The successful applicant will support and work alongside an established team of Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, supported by a Pharmacy Care Coordinator. You will be part of the wider DHC Clinical Pharmacy team.

Main duties of the job

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Carry out medicines optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration (e.g. checking inhaler technique), supporting medication reviews, and medicines reconciliation.
  • Where required, utilise consultation skills to work in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively.
  • Support effective implementation of MHRA and other safety alerts.
  • Provide specialist expertise, where competent, to address both the public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle advice.
  • Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing.
  • Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation, patient safety and CQC audits.
  • Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings.
  • Supervise practice reception teams in sorting and streaming general prescription requests, so as to allow GPs and clinical pharmacists to review the more clinically complex requests.
  • Develop relationships with other pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and members of the multi-disciplinary team to support integration of the pharmacy team across health and social care including primary care, community pharmacy, secondary care, and mental health.

The CCPE Primary Care Education Pathway must also be undertaken, this will be fully supported and mentored with appropriate study leave available.
