Job summary

Main duties of the job
· Act as a professional role model to junior and non-qualified support staff.
· Provide skilled assistance and care to patients in the operating theatre.
· Assess care needs of the perioperative patient and develops, implements and evaluates programmes of care, rectifying and adjusting to meet individual needs.
· Demonstrates knowledge of current research, practices and procedures within the specialist field.
· Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives.
· Works within professional codes of conduct.
· Ensure that patients perioperative needs are continually assessed and appropriate care delivered and documented.
· Supervise the work of junior staff ensuring quality and confidentiality is maintained.
· Manage own workload and support others to do this.
· Undertake training, if required, to achieve competencies during their preceptorship period and support teaching and development of all staff.
· Be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with NMC or HPC requirements.
· To participate in the training and development of Health Care Assistants and Operating Department Practitioners.

Established in 2007, the company has continued to grow and has now developed a day-case facility within Team Valley in Gateshead. The new facility comprises of theatre, a day-case unit, endoscopy, outpatient clinic facilities as well as having on-site MRI and ultrasound scanning.
