Job summary

We are keep to recruit caring and professional staff who share our values and who is looking to start out in the Healthcare environment. This is a new role for MKUCS and the post holder will be responsible for providing support and work under the direction of our Band 3 HCA's. This role will invovle working on internal rotation across 7 days a week and will include some weekend and night work.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include;

- Work in support of and under the direction of Band 3 HCAs and Registered Nurse (RN)

- Provide registration of patients and assistance to patients within defined parameters

- Record patient information.

- Record observations and document in the patients records, reporting any concerns to the Band 3 HCA's and Registered Nurses.

Job description

Job responsibilities

CORE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Practice

- Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve desired outcomes that promote the well-being of patients.

- Assist the Registered Nurses and Band 3 HCAs in the delivery of care to a designated patient group, demonstrating an ability to prioritise such care.

- Assist in the implementation of direct clinical care.

- Communicating and listening to patients and relatives and building up a rapport.

- Ensure that all care provided by yourself is documented appropriately.

- Recognise changes in patient condition and report to a RN and/or Band 3 HCA

- Ensure individual patient needs are met.

- Instigate emergency procedures e.g., fire; CPR.

- Assist in ensuring that effective channels are used to canvas the views and concerns of all patients and carers.

- Responsible for high standards of cleanliness and follow all guidelines set by infection control policy.

- Undertake training and practice of agreed clinical competencies in basic nursing skills for designated area.

- Keep up to date with changes in clinical practice and the effect of these on your role.

- Work as an effective team member of the clinical team.

- Carry out and record basic observation/test results recording NEWS and POPS and report changes to a Registered Nurse (RN).

Maintaining the Environment

-Assist in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards on the department

- Keep all reception areas safe, clean and tidy conveying an appearance of a well-cared for, friendly and inviting ward e.g., remove clutter, tidy notice boards

- Carry out spot cleaning to ensure spillages are dealt with swiftly and efficiently

- Respect the privacy and dignity of patients whilst carrying out housekeeping duties

- Ensure that all waste is stored in the correct manner according to Trust Policy

- Carry out daily and weekly checks within the department and report any problems to the Estates Department

- Ensure general and specialist equipment are cleaned according to Trust policy e.g., IV stands, ECGs, BM monitors etc

- Ensure that all isolation areas are cleaned appropriately

- Clean and check oxygen and suction equipment and report any deficits

General Duties

- Provide clerical support for clinical staffing

- Respond to requests for general information via. Telephone and email.

- Receive and pass on information to others, maintaining confidentiality

- Respond to initial complaints taking appropriate action as required

- Assist with the training of new Clinical Support Workers into department routines to achieve required standards

- General portering duties, as agreed with the department manager/s e.g., delivery and collection of pharmacy items, patient movement to other department.

Clinical Governance

- Participate in the MKUCS Appraisal and Personal Development Plan process by identifying your own development needs and agreeing development plans for these needs with a clinical supervisor/mentor.

- Ensure awareness of when and how to report untoward incidents and how to respond appropriately with patients or relatives' complaints.

- Ensure that your clinical practice is safe and appropriate at all times.

- Ensure your required mandatory and competency-based training is kept up to date.

- Ensures that own actions support equality, diversity, rights and maintain quality.

- Participate in the continued development of healthcare standards and service development.
