Job summary

This role will be administering COVID vaccinations for a cohort of housebound patients in BaNES. This program is due to go live at the beginning of October and will run for three months until the end of December. We are looking for vaccinating staff to work for BEMS on fixed term basis. This service is still in the process of being set up and exact daily hours are yet to be confirmed. We are willing to consider any working schedules from 1-5 days a week Monday-Friday.

Main duties of the job

Clinical assessment, Consent and Administration of Covid-19 vaccination

  • Conduct pre-vaccination clinical assessments to confirm if the patient meets the criteria for safe vaccination, including previous vaccinations, current health condition, assessment of medical history and allergies
  • Ensure knowledge of conditions and allergies that affect suitability for vaccination and previous vaccination history
  • Address any concerns the patient may have regarding the vaccine and potential contraindications
  • Provide the patient with verbal and written advice about any potential adverse reaction and contra-indications
  • If a vaccine is contraindicated, give a verbal explanation and advice when vaccination may be considered in the future
  • Ensure the patient understands the vaccination implications and gain informed consent to proceed with vaccination
  • Prepare, draw-up and administer the Covid-19 vaccine using aseptic technique and according to requirements for each individual vaccine as per the National Protocol
  • Administer subsequent licensed Covid-19 vaccinations according to the relevant National Protocol or PGD.
  • Record the clinical assessment and outcome on the patients' medical records and give the patient a vaccination record card and post vaccination leaflet

  • Registered Health Care Professional e.g. NMC for nurses, GPhC for pharmacists
  • Completed Basic Life Support and Anaphylaxis training within the last 12 months
  • Preferably completed immunisation training on vaccine storage, administration and legal aspects of vaccination within the last 12 months
  • Completed e-learning and assessment on Covid-19 vaccination programme
  • Completed e-learning and assessment on the specific Covid-19 vaccination product to be administered.
  • Completed NHS statutory and mandatory training required by employer
  • Professional registration

Communication Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of a good standard of literacy / English language skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and relatives remaining sensitive and empathetic
  • Listens to others' views respecting and valuing individual patient needs

  • Ability to recognise and manage challenging situations in a calm and professional manner
