Job summary

gtd healthcare is one of the largest NHS commissioned Primary and Urgent care providers in North West England. We have a an excellent opportunity for an additional Phlebotomist to join our friendly team within the Oldham Blood Service on a bank basis.

As an Phlebotomist you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team and will assist and support the clinical team and the operational team. You will aim to ensure the delivery of the highest standards of quality and safe, individualised care and will inspire trust and confidence by making a positive difference every time.

The successful candidate will provide phlebotomy services as part of gtd healthcare and the wider organisational services in accordance with specific guidelines and policies.

The Oldham Blood Service in hours however, there is a possibility for out of hours work.

Main duties of the job

  • Work as a member of the wider multi-disciplinary team.
  • Undertake a range of patient interventions within the scope of NVQ level 2 skills and competencies for patients as delegated.
  • Undertake basic patient observations.
  • Undertake home visits for phlebotomy services where appropriate.
  • Work within existing clinical guidelines, policies and infection control procedures.
  • Offer advice and support to patients and families in a wide range of situations.
  • Develop communication skills to enable the delivery of factual and sensitive information within confidentiality guidelines to patients, ensuring all information is appropriately documented and reported any areas of concern to the clinical team.
  • Demonstrate own role to new starters and students.
  • Ensure safe moving and handling techniques in the delivery of patient care, this can include the safe use of equipment.
  • Develop communication skills to enable the reporting of information to the multi- disciplinary team and other agencies as appropriate.
  • Undertake ordering and receipt of supplies as required.
  • Deliver patient care within essence of care standards and gtd guidelines and policies.
  • Document care delivered within the electronic patient records.
  • The post holder shall, as necessary, provide cover for and undertake duties of absent colleagues.
  • The post holder shall follow all the policies and procedures of the organisation.

  • To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required.

Any other duties, as agreed with the line manager to meet the needs of the organisation. This may include travel to other sites within the organisation.
