Job summary

Indigo Gender Service is a collaborative, innovative model of care between gtd healthcare, primary care and the LGBT Foundation for the NHS. We have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Associate to come onboard.

Indigo is a pioneering, localised and patient centred model that provides gender affirming healthcare for trans* and non-binary patients across Greater Manchester. We particularly welcome applicants from people of colour, trans and/or older (50+) as colleagues from these backgrounds are currently underrepresented in our organisation.

As a Nurse Associate, you will be involved in providing and maintaining a high standard of nursing care for trans and non-binary patients, with a strong commitment to primary care and the delivery of the highest quality, evidence-based care. The post holder will assist and support the practice team, which may include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education in accordance with specific guidelines and protocols, continually working within your scope of practice.

The successful candidate will be registered on the Nursing & Midwifery Council register and possess theNursing Associate foundation degree qualification.

Main duties of the job

  • Administration of gender affirming hormone injections.
  • Cervical Screening undertaking the role of cervical sample taker (in line with Public Health guidance on training requirements).
  • Participate in clinical and non-clinical audit.
  • New patient health checks including BP/BMI.
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses.
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs/PAs/Nurses as required.
  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and wellbeing.
  • Supporting and raising awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being.
  • Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with policies, procedures and training.
  • Provide holistic, compassionate, safe and effective care and support to patients, their families and service users in a range of care settings under the direction of a registered nurse, following an agreed plan of care and without direct supervision.
  • Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • You will be providing care to adults of all ages, contributing to core nursing roles and responsibilities, supporting the registered nurses to allow them to focus on more complex clinical care.
  • Following appropriate training, the following competency-based skills maybe undertaken by qualified nursing associates working within general practice:
