Job summary

gtd healthcare are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals who would like to pursue a career in primary care, in a developmental role as a Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA) who would qualify to be a Registered Nursing Associate (RNA). Within the apprenticeship period, you will study with Bolton University, working towards the Nursing and Midwifery Council standards of proficiency for Nursing Associates.

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic, and resilient individuals to undertake a 2-year level 5 apprenticeship ending in registration with the NMC as a Nurse Associate. As a Trainee Nursing Associate Apprentice, you will gain experience on clinical placements across a range of specialties, covering the four fields of nursing. You will work alongside Registered Nurses and other clinical professionals to develop the skills and knowledge required to complete your Trainee Nursing Associate apprenticeship and to ensure the delivery of outstanding care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

You will combine your academic work with on-the-job training, within an exciting and innovative primary care setting within gtd healthcare and deliver care, based on the needs of the local population. The TNA foundation degree training program is completed over two years. During this time, you must complete at least 2,300 program hours, which are divided to achieve an equal balance of theory and practice learning.

  • Undertaking of NHS health checks
  • Monitoring and assessment of patients
  • Weight monitoring and weight loss support
  • Supporting the MDT in chronic disease management
  • Promoting health and wellbeing for the local population in partnership with others
  • Use of motivational interviewing techniques

  • The role will work across the continuum of primary care services, based mainly in the 13 practices of gtd healthcare working with GP teams, reception teams, primary healthcare teams, community and district nursing service; mental health services throughout the geographical footprint. this list is not exhaustive.
  • Once qualified you will support and supervise trainee nursing associate apprentices, health care support workers and those new to care roles, for example, those undertaking the care certificate with their learning and development.
  • During your apprenticeship you will be supported by a gtd healthcare practice assessor and practice supervisor, as well as an academic assessor from Bolton University. You will also work with and be supported by other registered nurses you work with, as well as health care assistants, GPs, Pharmacists and the wider primary care teams clinical and non-clinical.
Other duties:

  • Any other duties, as agreed with the line manager to meet the needs of the organisation. This may include travel to other sites within the organisation.
