Job summary

We are looking to welcome an experienced endoscopy nurse to join our friendly team.

We are a private community endoscopy centre specialising in diagnostic gastrointestinal endoscopy. We are a well established Centre and currently undertake approximately 7500 endoscopies per year. All our referrals are direct NHS referrals from the General Practitioners across Mid South Essex CCG.

We are looking for a caring, motivated and enthusiastic individual who will work as part of a hard working dedicated team providing high quality, individualised patient care.

We carry out the following procedures within the community setting: Diagnostic gastroscopy, Diagnostic colonoscopy and polypectomy, Diagnostic flexible sigmoidoscopy,Rectal Bleeding Clinic: flexible sigmoidoscopy proctoscopy and banding of haemorrhoids.

We are currently involved in the process of applying for JAG Accreditation.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be motivated and organised with excellent communication skills and willing to be flexible to meet the demands of the endoscopy centre. You will work as part of the team providing excellent patient centred care in a clinically effective and compassionate way to ensure a positive experience for our patients.

You will rotate through the different areas of the endoscopy centre: admission, procedure rooms and recovery. We have dedicated decontamaination staff within the centre. You will be expected to participate in your professional development and attend relevant course as and when required.

About us

We have a dedicated clinical team comprising of the nursing team, Healthcare assistants and Decontamination supported by an administration team responsible for bookings, lists and communication of results to GP's.

We undertake diagnostic procedures only which enables us to focus upon the service we provide supported by our Consultant Endoscopists. Our ethos is 'We take time to Care'

The job involves the planning, delivery and evaluation of care to meet the individuals health and wellbeing needs in line with our core values and NMC professional frameworks. This includes admission and discharge, comfort, early recognition and management of endoscopy complications, vital signs and cannulation.

Act as a strong role model and encourage and support the professional development of self and others. Provide clinical supervision and direction for all colleagues and students to support them in reaching their full potential.

To support the running of the endoscopy environment by undertaking a range of activities which contribute to the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with appropriate NMC registration

Desirable

  • Diploma or degree in Nursing

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Able to or willing to learn to cannulation skills
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload
  • Able to evaluate information to aid decision making
  • Good written and verbal skills

Desirable

  • IT skills
  • Teaching and mentoring skills

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in Endoscopy Unit or similar
  • Awareness of clinical governance and relevance to practice

Desirable

  • Evidence of clinical competency in endoscopy
