Job responsibilities

This is the perfect opportunity to be part of a diverse team providing assessment, diagnostics, diagnosis, treatment, advice, and referrals.

As a UTC HCA you will be considered a key person in day-to-day clinical tasks within the department, without you the UTC would not function efficiently.

You will be working as part of a team within your sphere of competency in adiverse, multi-skilled teamthat includes GPs, Advanced Practitioners, Physician Associates, Paediatric ANPs, Emergency Practitioners and Live Well Coaches.

On each shift you will be expected to work with the shift lead. Together you will perform ECGs, Venepuncture and Cannulation, Urinalysis, Plaster of Paris, Dressings, department audits and a range of other tasks.

With links to both VTS and Greenwich University, you will have access to a range of CPD courses and opportunities to progress your career. We work closely with the ICS, ICB, Local Trust and various other local shareholders to provide opportunities tolearn, innovate and contribute new ideas.

It will also be a requirement to support the services Out of Hours Home Visiting service. This will require you to have a valid driving license in order to drive our company Out of Hours Service cars with the treating clinician to the patients home.

- Up-to-date Basic Life Support Certification in Adult and Paediatric

- Up to date Mandatory Statutory Training

- Team player, able to follow instruction and guidance from clinical seniors

Principal duties and responsibilities

- To work with shift leadership

- Effectively carry out clinical tasks, providing safe and efficient care.

- To perform diagnostics including ECGs, bloods, and urinalysis.

- To perform clinical skills including Plaster of Paris and Dressing application.

- To provide reassurance to patients, families, and carers.

- Follow diagnostic pathways.

- Effective communication with a range of inter-professional teams.

- Contribute to specific care guidelines and standards supporting the care of patients across the health economy.

- To implement Health and Safety and Risk Management appropriate to area of work

- To deliver aspects of the Clinical Governance Agenda, following the direction of the Clinical Leadership.

- Contribute to and manage various elements of auditing in the UTC.

- Provide immediate life support.

Communication and Relationship Skills

- Demonstrate excellent communication skills when working with the internal team as well as external partners, particularly our practices and the hospital trust.

- Able to identify and take into consideration barriers to understanding and employs appropriate methods to ensure effective communication particularly where barriers are clinical in nature.

Physical Skills

- Demonstrate competence in the use of all clinical equipment used in the overall care of patients within the scope of service.

- Demonstrate competence in diagnostic skills such as ECGs and venepuncture/cannulation.

- Demonstrate clinical treatment skills such as Plaster of Paris and Dressings.

- Have competent computer / keyboard skills including ability to utilise software programmes required to provide the service.

Out of Hours Service Support

- Monitor the referrals of patients into the out of hours home visiting service on our CLEO clinical system

- Liaise with the assigned treating clinician to plan in the visit to the patient in line with service KPI requirements.

- Ensure the secure handling of drugs and clinical equipment recording usage appropriately.

- Complete vehicle logs, reporting any discrepancies to the lead driver

- Report any vehicle issues to the lead driver for investigation and resolution.

- Support the treating clinician with chaperoning

- Support the treating clinicians if they need support

Patient/Client Care

- Establish effective communication with patients and carers / relatives.

- Ensure that appropriate action is taken to protect vulnerable patients and that they can access/receive the appropriate care.

- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.

- Promote peoples equality, diversity, and rights.

- Identify clinical issues and incidents within the service that reduce the quality of care bringing any issues to the attention of the Clinical Lead.

- Take part in activities to counter these to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care.

- The post holder is responsible for always ensuring the safety of patients and promoting a safety culture through the effective management of risk.
