Job summary

We are commissioned by Lancashire and South Cumbria, Integrated Care Board to provide NHS urgent and emergency dental care 365 days, at multiple sites across Lancashire. We believe in making a difference, and pride ourselves on delivering high quality patient care. We currently have services operating in Blackpool, Morecambe, Blackburn and Burnley. We only operate out of hours, evenings, weekends & bank holidays 365 days per year.

A rare opportunity has arisen for a detail-oriented person seeking a crucial role in ensuring the proper decontamination and sterilization of dental instruments and equipment in our Emergency Dental service.

Whilst previous experience of working within a decontamination service would be an advantage, having the right person to join our team is more important and therefore all necessary training will be provided.

Overview of the role:

  • £11.44 Weekend enhancements & Bank Holiday enhancements
  • Hours/shift patterns: Weekend shifts only - Saturday & Sunday & Bank Holidays 2pm to 6pm. We warmly welcome set shift patterns and bank staff.

Main duties of the job

Decontamination is the process where reusable items/instruments are rendered safe for further use on patients and safe for staff to handle. Decontamination processing is required to minimise the risk of transmission of infection between patients and between patients and staff. Decontamination of instruments is a complex process that involves several stages, including cleaning, disinfection, inspection, and sterilization.

To provide our service users with a high quality, safe and clean environment at all times.

Ensuring the clinic has fully decontaminated instruments available at all times, And that all compliance regulations and expectations are carried out to a high standard.

Instrument Decontamination & Sterilization

  • To undertake the full cycle of instrument decontamination in line with regulations & HTM01-05.
  • Capable of assembly and inspection for function ability, fitness for use and cleanliness.
  • Monitor and document sterilization cycles to ensure effectiveness and compliance with regulatory standards

Infection Control and Compliance

  • Having good Knowledge and understanding of Infection control and HTM01-05 regulation and the importance of this.
  • Adhere to strict infection control protocols and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic decontamination area, including regular cleaning and disinfection

To ensure that all necessary documentation is completed and recorded accurately.

Training & Education

Promote a culture of safety and infection control awareness within the practice.

Stay informed about advancements in decontamination and infection control practices.

Provide training and education to dental staff on proper decontamination techniques and infection control protocols
