Job summary

Welcome to FCMS! We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant to come and join our ever expanding team.

The Health Care Assistant (HCA) role will be to undertake a range of duties which involve direct patient care.

Hours: 37.5 hours full time Monday-Friday (Bank shifts available)

Salary: £11.00 per hour

Qualifications: 2 years experience working within a health care setting in either a hospital, general practice or community setting is desirable.

Location: The position will be between WEST LANCS (WN8 8LA) & Bolton (BL1 3RL)

Essential: Driving Licence and own vehicle

Full training will be provided to ensure competency and will be assessed by the Cardiac Physiologist. The post-holder will accept the responsibility for doing a quality job, aspire to achieve, share a corporate pride in achievements and strive to act as an ambassador for good quality.

Main duties of the job

Attach ECG ambulatory monitoring to patient.

Removal and downloading of ambulatory ECG.

Preparation of monitors for the next diagnostic clinic.

Discuss with patients issues relevant to their diagnostic investigations.

Liaise with Cardiac Physiologist highlighting any concerns re the patient.

Maintain accurate documentation with regards to the patient record.

Maintain stock levels.

Give advice and support to patients and carers, within duties appropriate to grade and level of competence.

Communicate closely with other colleagues, reporting on patients condition as appropriate.

Welcome patients attending the centre in a warm, friendly and courteous manner.

Update clinical system when patients present.

Maintain an accurate manual register of patients in the event of any break in computer service.

Answer the telephone.

Notify other departments of any patient arrivals where necessary.

Ordering and putting away stationary and stores.

Inputting data on computer and updating records.

Travel to West Lancashire Clinics as and when required.

Run 12 Lead ECG clinics in West Lancashire when required.

Ambulatory Blood pressure Clinics in West Lancashire when required-Monitors will need to be prepared for each patient and downloaded when the recording is finished

Use and encourage others to adopt appropriate infection control procedures and maintain work areas in each clinical room so that they are clean, safe and free from hazards reporting of any potential risks identified, including:

o Hand washing

o Universal hygiene procedures

o Segregation and disposal of waste material

o Decontamination of instruments and clinical equipment

o Reporting and treatment of sharps injuries

o Assist patients and colleagues in adopting sound infection control measures

Know the general principles of first aid and resuscitation to be able to undertake initial actions as appropriate.

Be aware of statutory child health procedures, and statutory local guidance and referral criteria.

Know the health and safety policies and procedures within the workplace, including fire procedures, maintaining documentation, monitoring and maintaining of equipment and furniture within your area of responsibility.

Use the computer monitor safely.

Be able to identify the risks to health of microbiological and chemical hazards within the working environment according to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

Record information and activities undertaken with patients and carers in an accurate and timely fashion using manual or computer systems as appropriate.

Input accurate read codes about patients to ensure accurate retrieval of information for monitoring and auditing processes.
