Your day in the life of a Theatre Nurse Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated Theatre Nurse Assistant to support our surgical teams during minor procedures across Greater Manchester, primarily around Oldham. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing equipment, maintaining sterile conditions, and assisting both patients and the surgeon to ensure smooth surgical operations while adhering to health and safety protocols.

Please note our service operates seven days a week and you will be required to work 5 out of 7 days. Shift patterns generally fall between 7:30am - 7:30pm.

This role is primarily based in Greater Manchester however our clinic locations are nationwide including: Birmingham, Hereford, Warwickshire, Shropshire, Telford, Worcestershire, Stoke, Staffordshire, Doncaster, Nottinghamshire, Wrexham, Gloucestershire, Reading, Frimley, Slough and Bassetlaw. This is a mobile role and you may be asked to travel to any of these site locations in the future.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • Preoperative Responsibilities:

Prepare the procedure room with correct lighting, sterile packs, and necessary equipment.

Set up surgical trays without contaminating items by following hand hygiene and gowning procedures.

Assist the nurse or surgeon in positioning the patient, explaining what to expect, and applying antiseptic solutions to the surgical site.

  • Intraoperative Responsibilities:

Pass instruments carefully and promptly

Maintain sterile field integrity and report any contamination immediately.

Observe vital signs and patient reactions, alerting the nurse or physician to any changes.

Keep accurate count of all sponges, tools, and sharps used.

  • Postoperative Duties:

Decontaminate instruments, dispose of biohazard waste, and sanitize the surgical room.

Help transport patients safely to recovery and ensure they are comfortable.

Record details such as instruments used, patient reactions, and any irregularities.

Requirements:

MUST HAVENVQ Level 3

Experience in a surgical setting preferred.

Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain sterile conditions.

Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and efficiently.

We work in partnership with a number of NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups nationwide to provide patients with access to community services closer to their home, these include Diagnostic Ultrasound, Gynaecology Services, diagnosis and treatment of Dermatological conditions, ENT, Ophthalmology services and the provision of extended Minor surgery procedures.
