Dermatology GP with Extended Role

Job summary

Are you passionate about providing outstanding dermatology care?

We are currently looking for experienced dermatology clinicians to join our forward-thinking Clinical team. You will work within our established and growing NHS Community Dermatology service in Greenwich and Bexley or Crawley. Working closely with local Trust consultant teams.

You will be able to work completely flexibly determining the dates and times you wish to work. Clinic sessions can be arranged at one of our GP surgery-based locations Monday to Saturday.

You will be supported by our dermatology consultant and have the opportunity to attend and contribute to local dermatology MDM meetings. You will also have access to regular consultant led teaching sessions and clinical governance meetings.

All clinics will be supported by an experienced Healthcare Assistant and you will benefit from a dedicated admin team, who will complete admin on your behalf.

Accredited GPwERs, Hospital based Dermatologists working at Senior Registrar or Staff Grade level or GPs with diploma and good dermatology experience will be considered.

Immediate start available

  • Sessions available in Greenwich, Bexley and Sussex

Consultation and minor surgery sessions (up to and including low risk BCCs)

1-6 Clinical sessions per week with minimal administration required

Benefit from Consultant supervision session and appraisal

Regular Consultant teaching sessions available

Remote clinical governance speciality meetings

Main duties of the job

To provide a full range of dermatology services to NHS patients referred by local GPs into Communitas Clinics Ltd services.

Clinical triage for all dermatology referrals including onward referral to secondary care where clinically appropriate.

Clinical assessment of patients, diagnosis, treatment and advice for acute dermatological conditions (in line with referral guidelines)

Advice, treatment and support for self-management of chronic dermatological conditions

Prescription of relevant medication in line with CCG formulary

Minor surgery procedures in line with minor surgery protocol (for accredited clinicians only)

Excision of low-risk basal cell carcinoma where clinically appropriate in line with current national guidelines (for accredited clinicians only)

Good communication with referring GPs to increase clinical awareness

Adherence to the organisations Significant Event analysis, process and the timely reporting of any untoward events.

Adhering to company policy processes and guidelines and regular attendance at Clinical Governance Meetings

Job responsibilities

To provide a full range of dermatological services to NHS patients referred by local GPs into Communitas Clinics Ltd services.

To be personally accountable for professional and ethical actions and practices within a legal and ethical framework that adheres to the GMCs requirements and local policies and procedures.

To maintain confidentiality while communicating patient information, in such a way that preserves the dignity and privacy of the patient and the patients family and carers.

To work in a non-judgemental, anti-discriminatory way, with regard to the cultural and religious beliefs of individuals and groups.

To maintain clinical competence and exercise awareness of professional responsibilities by reading current relevant literature, and undertaking opportunities for personal and professional development in accordance with the requirements of the GMC and the recommendations of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

Professional Registration:

You will be required to maintain any relevant professional registration including GMC and be responsible for insuring your own medical indemnity. Proof of both must be submitted to the Service Manager prior to any clinics being undertaken. You must also provide a current DBS certificate and ensure renewal every 3 years.

You will be required to maintain and update your mandatory training in line with organisational requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

To interpret and explain complex facts in relation to a patients condition, taking appropriate action and giving advice in a professional manner to team members, and when appropriate to family and other carers, in such a way that protects and preserves the patients dignity.

Act as an advocate for patients and colleagues

Ensure awareness of sources of support and guidance (e.g. PALS) and provide information in an acceptable format to all patients, recognising any difficulties and referring where appropriate

Delivering a quality service

Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the GMC

Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records using the appropriate read codes.

Prioritise, organise and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality
