Job summary

St Joseph's Hospital are looking for an experienced Deputy Outpatient Clinical Manager to join our Outpatient Nursing department.

Main duties of the job

To support the Outpatient Clinical Manager by providing professional leadership, strong operational management and clinical expertise to deliver a high-quality patient experience based at all times on evidence-based practice. To ensure company policies and standard operating procedures are embraced and embedded across the department. To deputise for the manager as required and act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Provide effective managerial and clinical leadership of departmental staff in conjunction with, or in the absence of, the Outpatient Clinical Manager.

Take the operational lead for the ophthalmology service.

Promote an open and safe culture for communication with colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team and proactively manage feedback from patients, relatives and carers seeking to resolve concerns at a local level and escalating as appropriate.

Be a role model contributing to the knowledge and clinical expertise of the team through supporting access to a robust induction programme for new starters, ongoing clinical supervision, implementing educational activities to support learning, mentorship and a commitment to the appraisal process.

In conjunction with the manager support the operational management of the outpatient department in relation to preparing day rotas and managing absence (holidays, sickness and other types of leave) to ensure efficient utilisation of the workforce.

Support the manager by demonstrating strong skills around communication (written and verbal) with an emphasis ensuring legible, appropriate and timely documentation is always available and current in relation to patients.

Take a lead role in identifying, developing and undertaking multi-disciplinary audits and ensuring outcomes are shared with colleagues embracing a culture of learning lessons.

Essential

  • Demonstrate an awareness of change management.
