Main duties of the job
The assistant accountant
will provide support to the management accountants in the provision of timely
and accurate financial information to all business stakeholders to allow
informed decision making and to provide assurance throughout the organisation.
To assist in ensuring
robust financial controls and processes are implemented and adhered to
therefore ensuring compliance and management of business risk.
Ensure with the support
of the accountants and finance manager compliance with statutory and
contractual requirements.
To support the business
as part of the finance team to provide financial guidance and information to
all managers and business areas.
Provide
financial support and guidance in relation to financial requirements of PCNs.

Management Accounts
- Day to day maintenance of
finance system verifying accuracy of coding and project costing
- Verifying accuracy and posting
journals as required
- Calculation and posting of
Income and Expenditure accruals and prepayments
- Preparation of quarterly
Balance Sheet Reconciliations and P & L analysis
- Preparation of Income
reconciliation and analysis
- Revenue Recognition in line
with recognised accounting standards
- Assist in preparation of
quarterly management accounts
Budget and Forecast Process
- Providing support to the
accountants in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts
Procurement
- Working with business managers
to identify and explore sustainable cost savings for all business areas.
- Periodic review of business
suppliers and recommendation for alternative or renewal of contract for supply
NHS Pension
- Accurately account for and
reconcile NHS pension contributions for all business schemes.
Property Costs
- Verify costs and
reimbursements in line with contractual agreements for all business properties
Financial Modelling
- Prepare reports to accurately
assess financial performance of partly completed projects
Other
- Provide support, training and
mentorship to finance assistants as required.
- Support financial
transactional processes in the absence of finance assistants
- Provide support in
development, documentation and implementation of robust financial processes and
policies
