Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to recruit an Operations Manager to join our team at Barnet Federation.

Working closely with the current management team and Federation board members you will be expected to contribute to the strategic direction for the service and direct the work of clinical teams, management and staff, to achieve service KPIs and standards are met and to drive quality improvements for patients, maintaining the highest quality services at all times.

To drive the culture and change necessary to ensure employee resources are maximised and flexed to deliver strong value for money and strong focus on patient outcomes.

You will be responsible for the operational management and leadership of a designated service portfolio and associated budget which currently includes Extended Access Services, Anti-Coagulation Services, SMI Health Checks, Spirometry and Smoking Cessation Services.

The role is currently remote but possibility of establishment of an office in Barnet.

Main duties of the job

  • Initiates and leads service redesign and delivers changes to services which maximise patient outcomes and improves operational effectiveness.
  • Manages the budget for their service portfolio; achievement of all performance/cultural targets; delivery of the service portfolios annual business plan; maintains compliance with all federation governance including but not limited to policies, procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Preparation and presentation of reports for Key Committees and Federation Board which demonstrate compliance, achievement against performance targets, and effective risk management.
  • Key member of the operations management team; contributes to the development and delivery of Federation strategy, business and service plans and objectives.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders such as Practice Managers, GPs, Nurses and Pharmacists, (including patients/carers), and strategic partners such as the Local Authority, North Central London ICB, and local community and acute providers.
  • Leads and manages a senior management/clinical team and manages staffing levels within agreed budgets and ensure all vacancies are recruited too promptly.
  • Deputises for the General Manager and Medical Director as and when required and necessary.

About us

Barnet Federated GPs is a rapidly growing GP Federation whose shareholders include all 48 practices in Barnet, covering over 425,000 patients. Within this, we are divided into 8 Primary Care Networks (PCNs), each with its own leadership structure. Barnet Federated GPs is made up of a small, office-based team along with some clinical and non-clinical staff whom we employ on behalf of the PCNs. We currently have an enthusiastic and very supportive Board of Directors leading Barnet Federated GPs who are focused on supporting and sustaining Primary Care in the London Borough of Barnet.

  • Ensure strong financial management of all key service lines and budgets, ensuring robust scrutiny of any overspends.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Systems Lead to support the effective configuration, maintenance, and performance of clinical systems.
  • Support the completion of the organisations self-assessments, including contributions to the Data Security and Protection Toolkit, to ensure ongoing compliance with data governance and security standards.
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing review of the organisation's Business Continuity Plan, ensuring resilience across clinical systems and operational processes.
  • Undertake delegated responsibilities from the General Manager related to the health, safety, and security of hub sites and associated assets, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and internal standards.
  • Ensure effective induction and onboarding of new sessional workers at hub sites, providing necessary system access and orientation to local procedures.
  • Communicate updates to working practices and procedural changes to the on-call managers, ensuring they are informed and able to respond appropriately

  • Undertake specific leadership functions in collaboration with other directors, clinicians and managers to support the implementation of service changes.
  • Develop capacity and capability to secure sustainable improvements in care pathways and interfaces with other health, social care, independent and charitable sector organisations and partners.
  • Take collective responsibility with the General Manager, Medical Director and other board directors, clinicians and managers to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.
