Job summary

HEE National Team have provided funding to support the deployment of practice educators to support the nursing associate apprentice role into primary care networks. The context for the provision of this support is the inclusion of the Apprentice Nursing Associate within the NHSE/I Additional Reimbursable Roles Scheme and recognition of the additional support required to understand, embed, and support this role within primary care.

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic Registered Nurse based in North Central London, to facilitate high standards of clinical practice to General Practice. A key objective for this role is to promote General Practice as an attractive setting for Nursing Associates to develop new pathways to enable entry into the specialism.

The successful candidate(s) will need to develop networks to support Trainee Nursing Associates and Nursing Associates to reduce isolation and vulnerability of their roles.

The Educator(s) will initially work with the Primary Care Network (PCN)’s in the Integrated Care Systems (ICS) to support the following:

  • Clinical teaching and assessing for the Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA) apprentices to successfully complete their programme.
  • Support pre-registered nurses during their placements in General Practice.
  • Support registered nurses new to the specialism with their development and smooth transition into General Practice.

Main duties of the job

You should be a Registered Nurse with post registration experience as a clinical educator and/or an understanding of pre-registration training.

You will have strong interpersonal and communications skills, be able to work independently, and have great time management skills.

Willing to travel to various sites across NCL

Job Title: Nurse Educator (NCL Training Hub)

Remuneration: £40,057- £45,839 (Equivalent to AfC Band 7) pro rata

Hours of work: 2-4 sessions (8h-16h) per week

Contract Length: One-year, fixed term (46 weeks)

Responsible to: Nurse Education Lead, North Central London Training Hub

Accountable to: Chief Operating Officer

Travel: Whilst some of the work can be done remotely there is an expectation for some of this work to be face to face with travel across North Central London (NCL) (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey & Islington)

Base: This role will be a combination home and office based.

  • Support registered nurses new to the specialism with their development and smooth transition into General Practice.

Job Summary

  • You will work alongside learners in a coaching and mentoring capacity to promote best practice, to motivate and inspire staff to achieve their best and promote a positive learning culture within General Practice.
  • Attend relevant employer and sector groups to raise the profile of the provision.
  • Support the recruitment of internal and external candidates who want to apply for the nursing associate apprenticeship and nursing degree.
  • Encourage the development of practice placements to raise the profile of nursing in primary and social care.
  • Sign-post candidates to appropriate learning needed to meet the educational requirements for their desired course, for example, functional skills Maths and English.
  • Provide regular group supervision and/or action learning for staff, as required.
  • Identify and support the training needs for staff new to nursing posts in general practice, providing individual action learning plans.
  • Development of communication networks and close working with practice managers, practice placement areas and HEIs.
  • Engagement and collaboration with the HEIs to ensure that the PCNs administration for students is completed.
  • A desire to make a difference to improving the care of our patients and the ability to work autonomously and within a team are essential.
  • Experience in collecting relevant data and reports needed to evaluate the pilot project.
  • Provide necessary, accurate and timely collated data and reports to NCL Training Hub in evaluating the pilot project.

  • Registered general nurse.
  • Post reg education relevant to primary care e.g., SPQ
