Supporting and facilitating the development of clinical practice supervisors and assessors, providing and promoting supervision and support structures in order to build education in practice capability, consistency and efficiency.

North Central London Primary & Community Care Training Hub

Since their inception as Community Education Provider Networks (CEPNs) 6 years ago, Training Hubs have developed as effective networks that develop innovative educational and workforce initiatives for primary, community and social care.

The purpose of the Training Hub is to support team working across professional and organisational boundaries to prevent fragmentation and duplication of care. Training Hubs are seen to be the main vehicle to deliver workforce development, training and education in local areas.

The North Central London Training Hub is made up of five local borough based hubs (Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden and Islington) that work collaboratively across the local STP footprint to support key workforce agendas including the General Practice Nursing Ten Point Plan and Fellowships programme.

This post will be employed by the Haringey Training Hub, on behalf of all five boroughs.

The post holder will be a member of the developing North Central London Training Hub working with a dynamic team of clinicians and managers. They will be based in Haringey, as part of the Training Hub team there but work closely with each local Training Hub in NCL (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Islington).

Definition of a TNA (Trainee Nursing Associate)

The trainee is working towards progression into the post of Nursing Associate through successful completion of the Nursing Associate training programme which includes the attainment of a level 5 Foundation Degree equivalent qualification. They will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Nursing Associate within the service and through completion of the Nursing Associate training programme which includes working in care settings and delivery of person-centred care.

Responsibilities

1. Nurse Educator

1.1 Assessing the quality of a range of practice learning environments, determining interventions to sustain and enhance practice education; ensuring all service areas/ placement providers have an up to date action plan in place, informing the delivery of education as part of the NCL Education Team.

1.2 Supporting and facilitating the development of clinical practice supervisors and assessors, providing and promoting supervision and support structures in order to build education in practice capability, consistency and efficiency.

1.3 Leading on the structuring and coordination of inter professional learning activity across NCL Integrated Care System (ICS)

1.4 To promote and maintain effective communication and disseminate information related to practice development

1.5 To promote and facilitate the provision of a high standard of holistic patient-centred care

1.6 To attend appropriate meetings and work collaboratively with own line manager and senior managers.

1.7 Participating in quality assurance multi professional site visits across organisations.

1.8 Developing, co-coordinating, evaluating and implementing Training Needs Analysis in conjunction with the NCL Training Hub(s) member organisation leads.

2 Learning and Development

2.1 Lead on the structuring, design and delivery of inter professional learning opportunities in practice for nursing students and nurse supervisors and assessors, across the member organisations of the NCL Training Hub.

2.2 Work in partnership with the Training Hub(s) organisation leads and HEIs in the planning, delivery and review of development programmes for supervisors and assessors in order to meet the learning needs of different nursing groups, and to ensure that the facilitation of inter professional learning outcomes is included.

2.3 Identify opportunities where nursing supervision can be facilitated in practice as a foundation for inter professional learning to take place.

2.4 Produce and maintain a portfolio of education in practice activity within service area(s). For example, in-house clinical supervision programmes, structured inter professional learning activities, teaching packages

2.5 Lead on the development, implementation and review of education in practice learning environments in line with the objectives and terms of reference of the NCL Training Hub.

3 Services and Project Management

3.1 Prepare and support supervisors and assessors to perform educational audits/ self-assessments and support supervisors in the delivery of education action plans.

3.2 Undertake research and development relevant to supervision/ education in practice and the clinical learning environment.

3.3 Assess and benchmark clinical and other practice educational environments within the NCL ICS organisations.

3.4 Develop and support supervisors and assessors in decisions relating to the student experience including the achievement of learning outcomes, competence and fitness for practice.

3.5 Identify shortfalls in mentors/ practice supervisors and assessors across a range of learning environments in order to inform commissioning intentions, and facilitate access to multi professional mentorship/supervision programmes/ updates and training opportunities.

3.6 Provide best practice advice in a clinical setting for mentors/ practice supervisors and assessors, and staff in relation to education in practice.

4 Development and Innovation

4.1 Identify outcomes of inter professional learning experiences in order to facilitate the breadth of the student experience, and evaluate the effectiveness of any change.

4.2 Collaborate with the NCL Training Hub(s) and HEIs to align new placement opportunities to learning outcomes.

4.3 Network locally with peer group to support the sharing of best practice and attend peer support sessions as appropriate.

5 Communication

5.1 Act as an expert resource/champion of interprofessional learning in placement

5.2 Communicate educational and practice information across placement providers and educational Institutions, and undertake presentations relating to education in practice.

5.3 Ensure communication channels are used appropriately to facilitate the flow of information between member organisations.

5.4 Share best practice relating to quality assurance and interprofessional learning across placement providers.

5.5 Produce regular progress reports to inform learning and development monitoring within the Training Hub(s)

5.6 Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times in conjunction with organisational policies.

6 Service Improvement

6.1 Collaborate with key member organisation leads in the NCL training Hub and Higher Education Institutions to ensure academic rigour in practice learning is maintained; learning outcomes can be met, and are aligned with service reconfigurations.

6.2 Participate in multi professional quality assurance monitoring of education in practice across organisational boundaries, aligned with the terms of reference of the NCL Training Hub(s) and with quality assurance systems in partnership with education providers.

6.3 Continuously monitor practice learning activities against quality assurance standards enabling ongoing enhancement of the learning experience.

7 Information and Knowledge

7.1 Deliver key role outcomes as required by the NCL Training Hub and North London Partners (ICS).

7.2 Liaise with Whittington health in the maintenance of up to date and accurate records and live registers of mentors/supervisors/assessors/educators in the practice setting.

7.3 Monitor numbers of trainee nursing associates and undergraduate nursing students in placements, as well as student complaints in highlight trends and inform action planning.

7.4 Liaise with Information Service departments within placement providers, including Library Services, to inform resource requirements and widen access to facilities.

8 Personal and people development

8.1 Contribute to maintaining and improving own professional knowledge and competence, and that of mentors/practice supervisors and assessors in practice.

8.2 Manage own workload independently and prioritising as required.

8.3 Participate in clinical supervision/professional mentoring.
