Mortimer Medical Practice is a well-established and respected GP Practice located in the heart of rural Herefordshire. We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Dispenser to join our growing team.

About the Role As part of our dedicated dispensing team, youll be working closely with our clinical and administrative teams to ensure patients receive safe and efficient dispensing services. The role offers variety and the opportunity to work across our three sites, Kingsland (main site), Leintwardine, and Orleton.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimal NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent)
  • Full UK driving licence (travel between sites is required)

* This role is for 30 - 37 hours per week*

Main duties of the job

  • Be the first port of call to patients
  • Taking in and handing out prescriptions
  • Dispensing prescriptions
  • Using dispensary and stores computer systems to generate stock lists and labels
  • Helping to maintain reasonable dispensary stock levels
  • Receiving, loading, unloading incoming goods from wholesalers, manufacturers and elsewhere
  • Selling over the counter medicines
  • Answering queries on the supply and availability of medicines, where this is within their competence
  • Responding to telephone and face to face enquiries of a routine nature from patients, their representatives, members of the public and a wide range of staff groupsand referring queries to the relevant member of the pharmacy team when necessary
  • Drawing any problems identified or queries raised to the attention of pharmacists or pharmacy technicians
  • Pre-packing, assembling and labelling medicines
  • Ensuring that health and safety requirements are met

About us

The Mortimer Medical Practice is a long-established and well-respected GP practice located in the heart of rural Herefordshire. We serve just over 8,900 patients across three sites, working together as one supportive and cohesive team.

Main Surgery: Kingsland

Branch Surgeries: Leintwardine and Orleton

We are a dispensing practice, with a fully operational dispensary at each site.

Our ethos is to provide high-quality, patient-centred care in a friendly and welcoming environment. The practice team is made up of:

GPs: 3 Partners and 5 Salaried GPs

Nursing Team: 4 Practice Nurses and 3 Healthcare Assistants.

Dispensary Team: A Network Pharmacist carrying out medication reviews, a Level 3 Managing Supervisor - Pharmacy Technician, 5 Level 2 Dispensers, and an Apprentice Dispenser, all supported by a dedicated Prescription Clerk.

Additional Clinical Support: A Home Visiting Paramedic and a Physician Associate.

As a Dispenser, you will play a key role in the smooth running of our busy dispensaries. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Dispensing prescriptions accurately and efficiently
  • Taking in and handing out prescriptions to patients
  • Pre-packing, assembling, and labelling medicines
  • Using dispensary computer systems to generate stock lists and labels
  • Helping to maintain safe and adequate stock levels
  • Receiving, loading, and unloading goods from suppliers
  • Communicating effectively with patients, clinicians, and team members
  • Responding to patient queries - within competence and escalating when needed
  • Ensuring health and safety standards are met at all times
