This is an exciting new role to oversee the delivery of primary care education for the extended primary care team, working closely with a range of educators.

The GP Multi-Professional Educator will work with the Head of Service in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the Health Education England mandate for Training Hubs. Focusing on improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience & ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.

We are looking for GPs with a passion for education and quality improvement. Additional support will be offered via the Primary Care School and GP Deanery to support professional development of the General Practitioner Multi-Professional Educator with peer support from the TDPs.

Main duties of the job

With the changing face of Primary Care and the expansion of the workforce, in particular the ARRS roles, the requirement for professional development, support, supervision and mentorship is an ever-increasing pressure on GPs and senior colleagues. The General Practitioner Multi-Professional Educator role is aligned to the TDP role descriptors but expanded to cover other professional roles. This will deliver an integrated workforce comprising individuals from a variety of professional and other backgrounds.

The placement strategy currently being developed aims to promote place-based training and development within the PCNs. This role will be pivotal in supporting the delivery of this strategy

Key relationships will include educators working in the training hub to develop shared learning opportunities and cross professional working. Close working with the deanery, HEIs and existing TDPs and educators external to the training hub will be required in order to achieve systemwide development

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified General Practitioner.
  • GP trainer qualification recognised by HEE such as PG cert or willing to undertake.
  • Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP).
  • A demonstrable commitment to professional development.
  • NHSE performers list with no warnings / conditions.

Experience

Essential

  • Post CCT clinical experience in general practice.
  • Experience of supervision and/or training of undergraduate or postgraduate learners in primary care setting.
  • Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education.
  • Understanding of developments involving the relevant. Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies, related NHS organizations and regulatory bodies.
  • Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda.
  • Active involvement in, and up to date with, appraisal processes.
  • Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters.
  • An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.
  • Experience of working autonomously.

Desirable

  • Further experience in healthcare education e.g. F2 tutor, GP trainer, undergraduate small group tutor.
  • Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional team.
