Location will be based across the 6 hubs in Herefordshire (Hereford, Kington, Ross-on-Wye, Leominster, Ledbury and Bromyard)

Flexible working (Monday – Friday Evenings and weekend daytime)

As a Healthcare Assistant you will become part of our friendly primary care team. You will be responsible for the delivery of outstanding care to our patients.

The HCA will work under the supervision of the Practice Nurse performing procedures such as ECG’s, phlebotomy and straightforward wound management.

Main duties of the job

· Taking blood pressure

· Chaperoning duties

· Simple dressings

· Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses

· Equipment checks / ordering as delegated by Practice Nurse on site

· Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

· Maintaining stock levels of Taurus stock items

· Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Job responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The HCA will work under the supervision of the Practice Nurse performing investigative procedures such as ECG’s, phlebotomy and undertake straightforward wound management.

Main Responsibilities

· Taking blood pressure

· Chaperoning duties

· Simple dressings

· Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses

· Equipment checks / ordering as delegated by Practice Nurse on site

· Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

· Maintaining stock levels of Taurus stock items

· Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

· Identify carers and encourage registration with carers support agency

· Record fridge temperatures, reporting deviances to hub GP

· Undertake Quality control tests for d-dimer / BNP equipment

· Work with receptionist to secure safe storage of Taurus equipment at the end of clinical session.

· With receptionist dispose of clinical and domestic waste from rooms used by Taurus

· Work with receptionist to ensure safe and secure closure of building at end of working day

· To carry any other appropriate duties as required.

Higher grade duties for those with additional training.

· Flu vaccinations during campaigns

· B12 injections

· Suture removal

To carry any other appropriate duties as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Wound care training.
  • In date CPR training (within 18 months).

Desirable

  • NVQ level 1 + 2 health and social care.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of consulting with patients.
  • Experience of working in a multi-professional environment.
  • Experience of EMIS WEB clinical system and using templates.
  • An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in primary care undertaking duties as listed in job description.
