Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Medicines Counter
Assistants (MCAs) to join our friendly team within Holme Pharmacy, Holme on
Spalding Moor. An MCA qualification is desirable but not essential as we can
provide you with the necessary training. In addition to prescription services,
our pharmacy offers services such as flu vaccines, consultations, minor
ailments and much more.
The right candidates will have excellent communication
skills and a passion for provide excellent, supportive and non-judgemental care
to our patients.
Working hours 18-24 per week over 3-5 days
The
hourly rate is £11.84 (£23,151 WTE) with increments up to £12.13 (£23,718 WTE).
We also offer five weeks annual leave plus bank holidays, the NEST pension

Main duties of the job
The role will include:
Providing a friendly, supportive service to patients collecting prescription or with a medication query
Providing sales support for shop and over-the-counter items, referring to the Pharmacist as appropriate
Maintaining stock within the shop through effective ordering and stock control
Supporting the pharmacist and dispensing team to meet the needs of patients
About us
We
are a small team consisting of a Superintendent Pharmacist, Duty Pharmacist, 4
Dispensers, 2 Medicines Counter Assistants, a Finance Administrator &
Operations Manager.
We
are a fast-paced pharmacy with all staff pulling together to meet the needs of
patients. We have a positive and fun working environment and will always try to
make each day a good one.
We
are open Monday-Friday (so no weekend working) and open 08:30-12:30 and
14:00-18:00 for patients.

Job Purpose: To provide an efficient and courteous medicines counter service to all patients, whilst working within the Standard Operating Procedures as set out by the Pharmacy. To maintain shop stock, ensuring that the shop area is tidy.
- Hand out prescriptions to patients checking
exemption certificates and following SOPs, offering medication advice and answering
patient queries as necessary and referring to the pharmacist as appropriate.
- Ensure prescriptions are endorsed correctly,
overleaf completed by patient, counted, recorded and filed ready to be sent to
the PPA for reimbursement at the end of each month.
- Check
retrievals area every 2 months for uncollected prescriptions.
- Dispose
of returned medication in the DOOP bins, ensuring that the labels are placed in
confidential waste and the cardboard in the recycling waste.
- Collect
prescriptions from the practice reception desk.
- Give
patients advice on products and services including GSL (general sale list)
medicines and P (Pharmacy) medicines, referring to the pharmacy
assistants and pharmacist
as appropriate.
- Maintain
adequate stock levels of retail and OTC items within the pharmacy, ordering as
required (paying attention to costing) and checking all invoices against stock
received. Rotating stock to ensure short dated lines are used first.
- Ensure
that the shop area is tidy, cleaning shelves and organising as required.
- Conduct
date checks and remove out of date retail and OTC stock on a monthly basis.
- Put
OTC, retail and prescription sales through the till via cash or card payment.
- Cash
up daily including printing till reports, doing end of day banking on card
machine and rectifying any till discrepancies.
- Advise
the finance administrator when further change is required for the till.
- Answer
telephone queries, referring to the pharmacy assistants and pharmacist as
appropriate.
- Check
the pharmacy NHS Mail emails throughout the day.
- Enter
data on Pharmoutcomes for DOMMAR charts, influenza vaccinations, emergency
contraception (EHC), methadone supervised consumption and minor ailments as
requested by pharmacist.
- Assist with the co-ordination of the collection
of medicines from Holme Pharmacy to deliver to the collection points at Brough
& South Cave surgeries.
- Co-ordinate the collection of paperwork from
Brough & South Cave surgeries to deliver to Holme Pharmacy.
- Provide sickness and annual leave cover to deliver medicines to designated patient home
addresses within the agreed time slots, ensuring that patients sign for receipt
of delivery and where appropriate pay the appropriate prescription charge.
- Balance cash taken, return undelivered drugs
etc. at the end of each day.
- Maintain a mileage log for the pharmacy and pass
records to finance administrator at regular intervals.
- Taking
part in an annual Performance and Development review as required by the
Pharmacy.
- Working
in accordance with the Pharmacy SOPs at all times.
- Providing
cover for holidays and sickness to ensure continuation of the service.
