Main duties of the job
As a Peripatetic Senior
Dental Nurse,
youll provide clinical and operational support across multiple Smile Together
practices. From short-notice cover to planned support, youll play a key role
in maintaining continuity of care and upholding the highest standards in
infection control, safeguarding, compliance, and patient experience.
Youll
work closely with Practice Managers to support day-to-day operations, and act
as a role model and mentor to dental nurses and trainees, helping them settle
into practice life and grow in confidence. Whether its preparing a surgery,
supporting a colleague, or helping implement service improvements, your
reliability, professionalism, and clinical experience will make you an

Peripatetic Practice and Team
Leadership
Provide high-quality dental nursing and leadership support across Smile
Together sites in west Cornwall, including short-notice cover when required
Work collaboratively with multiple Practice Managers to deliver practice KPIs
and ensure seamless patient care
Support site teams with the induction, mentoring, and professional
development of dental nurses and trainees
Act as a visible role model and clinical lead across locations, fostering
teamwork, communication, and high performance
Clinical and Operational Excellence
Maintain a consistent standard of infection control, compliance, and
operational excellence across different practice sites
Act as Radiation Protection Supervisor and Infection Prevention and Control
(IPC) Lead when operating at specific sites, ensuring local policies are
applied effectively
Provide safeguarding support and guidance where concerns arise, ensuring
Smile Togethers policies are followed
Support stock control, equipment maintenance, and efficient resource use
across sites
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of clinical governance frameworks
Quality, Safety, and Service Improvement
Support audit activities and service development across the west Cornwall
region
Identify and share service improvement opportunities with Practice and
Service Managers
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of incidents and support colleagues in
developing safe practices
Professionalism and Representation
Represent Smile Together with professionalism and integrity when working
across sites
Maintain full GDC registration and commit to continuing professional
development through Smile Togethers Training Academy and Perform system
Engage with wider Smile Together teams to foster collaboration and continuous

Performance and KPIs
The post holder will be reviewed against a range of key performance indicators
(KPIs), which may include:
Coverage and Support KPIs: Response time to cover requests, feedback from
Practice Managers, number of sites supported
Compliance KPIs: Clinical audit results, IPC standards adherence,
safeguarding process compliance
People KPIs: Support for onboarding and mentoring, nurse development
outcomes, retention and satisfaction of staff supported
Operational KPIs: Efficient use of resources across sites, effectiveness of
stock and equipment management
Leadership KPIs: Contribution to practice team meetings, support with
improvement initiatives, feedback from team members and managers
KPIs will be reviewed regularly through supervision and appraisal processes,
and the post holder will be supported to meet and exceed expectations.
