We have an exciting opportunity for a private Dental Therapist at Smile Together Dental CIC to support our continuing business growth and development.
Reporting to our Clinical Director, this position will suit someone who is looking for a change and, if not already based in the county, someone who would be interested in relocating to Cornwall.
Main duties of the job
Working in our friendly practice based in the heart of the local community in Newquay, responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) providing clinical dental treatment for children and adults, as described in the Dental Therapist scope of practice, both on prescription from the dentist and via direct-access, therapy led sessions.

Job Summary:
The post holder will be an integral part of our practice development. Using their full
scope of practice, you will work with our Newquay or Saltash team to design and
help deliver services which provide high quality care for our patients, including
those at most risk from dental disease.
Key accountabilities:
Providing clinical dental treatment for children and adults, as described
in the Dental Therapist scope of practice, both on prescription from the
dentist and via direct-access, therapy led sessions
Undertaking examinations, diagnosing within scope and prescribing,
acquiring and reporting on radiographs as appropriate
Treating target numbers of patients but with time to apply your patient
skills, enabling genuine quality care provision

Actively engaging with Smile Together teams and participating in audit
activities, planning and development sessions, and in-house meetings
etc
Being responsible for safe working and practice on a day-to-day basis in
sites of clinical activity, ensuring compliance with clinical governance
and legislation, appropriate health, safety and security procedures within
the work area, and report accidents, incidents and near misses using the
Smile Together incident reporting procedure
Participating in appropriate community dental and oral health promotion

Undertaking other reasonable duties as requested by your line manager

Maintaining and developing your clinical competency and continuing
professional/personal development according to agreed training needs
via our Smile Together Training Academy and Perform (appraisal and
review system)
Working alongside clinical and professional support colleagues in
service improvement and facilitating ongoing organisational change and
development
Working in our Newquay dental practice
On occasions you may be required to visit and work from other locations
in Cornwall where you would need to integrate as part of the local team

- Competency in the full scope of practice as a Dental Therapist acquired through training and clinical experience, including for example:
- Fillings in deciduous and permanent teeth which entails cavity preparation using high-speed cutting equipment and a variety of materials
- Giving local anaesthesia by infiltration and/or block injection
- Pulp treatment of primary teeth
- Extraction of primary teeth under local anaesthesia
- Taking and developing intra and extra oral radiographs
- The application of fissure sealants and topical fluoride treatments
- Scaling, polishing and root surface debridement
- Taking impressions
- Re-cementing of crowns to permanent teeth
- Deciduous tooth preparation and fitting of preformed metal crowns
- Individual oral hygiene, diet instruction and advice
Desirable
- Demonstrable understanding of all aspects of pain and anxiety
- management, particularly for anxious patients
