We have an exciting opportunity for an inspiring and engaging leader to manage the Wellbeing Team within Student Support.

The Wellbeing team provides appropriate support and intervention for students experiencing emotional and / or psychological distress, or significant personal difficulties that may impede their engagement, success, and progression whilst at university.

The Wellbeing Manager role is integral to the delivery of an excellent, rounded student experience, rooted within our Mental Health Strategy.

Main duties of the job

Leading the wellbeing service area, you will be responsible for ensuring service delivery and excellence, through integrated partnership to ensure a seamless, high-quality, and consistent experience.

An inspiring and engaging leader, you will work with our student-focused wellbeing service and highly skilled team on to its ambition of being a sector leading student service. Bringing your expertise as a registered professional, you will contribute to delivery of student facing activity, providing support for students experiencing emotional, psychological, or mental health difficulties, by providing a timely, accessible, and confidential service.

Working with colleagues within Student Support regarding day-to-day operations and case management, you will lead colleagues using data and metrics to support delivery of service excellence, alongside carrying a small student caseload.

The Wellbeing Manager will also be responsible for overseeing the relationships with third party suppliers, partner organisations key community links, as well as having responsibility for our out of hours provision for students in crisis.

The role will report into the Head of Student Support and will work closely with other managers of the student support service area.

As part of the wider Student Support service area, which also includes Respect Culture and Behaviours, Disability and Inclusion, Money Advice and Financial Support and Student Cases management teams, the Wellbeing Manager will report to the Head of Student Support and working closely with the other teams and services, deliver exceptional end to end support to our students.

Leading the wellbeing service area, the postholder will be responsible for ensuring service delivery and excellence, and through consistent partnership working with internal and external stakeholders and partners, ensuring a seamless, high-quality, and consistent experience. As a registered professional, the postholder will also contribute to delivery of student facing activity, providing support for students experiencing emotional, psychological, or mental health difficulties, providing a timely, accessible, and confidential service.

The Wellbeing Manager will also be responsible for overseeing the relationships with third party suppliers, partner organisations key community links, as well as having responsibility for our out of hours provision for students in crisis.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Provide consistent and inspiring leadership to the wellbeing team, supporting and mentoring colleagues to deliver high quality student-facing services.
  • Embed a team culture characterised by empowerment, accountability, and excellence.
  • Foster a culture of collaborative working across professional services and School teams, providing professional advice and / or support in relation to student wellbeing, using an evidence-based approach and focussing on the best possible student outcomes.
  • Formulate and update policies, procedures, resources, and materials in relation to student wellbeing, ensuring they are current, fit for purpose and subject to regular review through a programme of continuous improvement.
  • Promote delivery of safe, ethical, and effective standards of intervention, challenging where appropriate and offering support to change.
  • Ensure the effective provision of support for students in need and crisis across 8 8 Monday to Friday and weekends.
  • Use your experience and expertise to provide risk assessment, case management and clinical leadership in difficult decision-making situations/ clinical dilemmas.
  • Utilise service data and customer feedback to support monitoring of services by maintaining a frequent cycle of reporting performance against key standards and metrics, to inform proactive service improvement plans and to measure service provision, delivery, and consistency.
  • Work with the Director, Heads of Service, School Business Managers, and other colleagues, to ensure delivery of tactical project work; agreeing timelines, supporting implementation, and escalating any problems to ensure timely delivery of projects and associated customer benefits.
  • Work collaboratively with other areas of the University to create and deliver an annual plan of targeted objectives to continually evolve our service offering.
  • Participate in forums within the Directorate and / or wider university as part of strategic planning, adding value through expert knowledge.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to develop and produce high quality reports on service usage and trends, whilst working to deadlines and targets.
  • Perform any other duties appropriate to the grade as may be required by the Director of Student Experience and Support.
  • Comply with the personal health and safety responsibilities specified in the University Health and Safety Policy.
