Job summary

As Head of Conduct and Capability, you will be responsible for managing students with a range of conduct or capability concerns. These concerns may range from the low-level to more complex and serious matters. You will work with students who may have: Attendance and engagement issues; Violations of PCSM policies, including the student code of conduct; Capability concerns or professionalism issues.

Main duties of the job

You will ensure that student conduct issues are effectively monitored and consistently addressed, signposting support services where appropriate but also applying sanctions in line with School policies where necessary. You will play a key role in PCSM in ensuring that School student conduct and capability policies are fair, transparent and robust. You will also chair the Student Conduct and Capability Group, which makes decisions about how to manage students with conduct or capability issues and has the power to refer students to fitness to practise panels. You will represent the School at relevant investigations and hearings, as required.

About the role Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria have entered into a partnership to form the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM), based at the University of Cumbria at the Carlisle Fusehill street campus. As Head of Conduct and Capability, you will be responsible for managing students with a range of conduct or capability concerns. These concerns may range from the low-level to more complex and serious matters. You will work with students who may have:

  • Attendance and engagement issues;
  • Violations of PCSM policies, including the student code of conduct;
  • Capability concerns or professionalism issues.

  • A primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) full GMC registration and Membership of one of the Royal Colleges.
  • Clinically active and experienced, working as a Consultant
  • Proven leadership skills, with an ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Outstanding oral and written communication and interpersonal relationship skills
  • Ability to role-model the professional values and behaviours expected of medical professionals
