We are seeking a highly-motivated and experienced individual to join us as the Subject Development Lead for Pharmacology and Prescribing at Pears Cumbria School of Medicine.
The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM) is a new venture between Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria with the specific purpose of helping to address health inequality in the UK. The school will be based at the Carlisle campus and is expected to open in 2025. Our vision is to be collaborative and inclusive, innovative and research-informed. We aim to produce skilled clinicians who are adaptable and focused on the delivery of safe and sustainable, high-quality and person-centred care to improve health outcomes for the people of Cumbria.
The programme will equip students with generalist skills and the ability to adapt and apply knowledge to different environments, circumstances and challenges. The curriculum is being designed collaboratively with academic colleagues, to address the vision and aims of the school, and the unique challenges of delivery across Cumbria. As PCSM Subject Development Lead for Pharmacology and Prescribing, you will be responsible for the planning and development of innovative and engaging learning events, and associated teaching and learning materials that cover the Pharmacology and Prescribing curriculum within the Medical Sciences and Clinical Skills and Professional Practice modules such that these topics are integrated longitudinally across different topics and placements. In parallel, you will also develop formative and summative assessment materials that align with learning outcomes, enabling students to monitor their own learning and preparing them effectively for key summative assessments, such as the Medical Licensing Assessment and Prescribing Skills Assessment.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape a bespoke community-based curriculum through engagement with our innovative and transformational medical programme. You will be based at the Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle, and will work closely with academics and in London and Cumbria.
Duties and responsibilities This is an academic role within the PCSM with responsibility for leading on the development and delivery of teaching around an important aspect of the PCSM curriculum. You will:
Work closely with the modules leads to formulate a plan for the delivery of the Pharmacology and Prescribing subject area across modules, with a focus on the early years of the programme.Use expertise in pharmacology, clinical pharmacology and prescribing and educational expertise and experience to develop high quality learning outcomes and teaching materials for the Pharmacology and Prescribing subject area across a range of teaching and learning modalities.Plan and develop online content within the Pharmacology and Prescribing subject area, including a focus on the clinical context and knowledge required.Use expertise and experience to deliver Pharmacology and Prescribing materials that are authentic to students' clinical experiences.Develop formative and summative assessment materials that effectively prepare students for Pharmacology and Prescribing aspects of the Medical Licencing Assessment Applied Knowledge Test and Prescribing Skills Assessment Work with the wider PCSM Academic and Operational teams to support activities for development and opening of the school, including but not limited to recruitment and admissions Essential requirements
You will have medical or pharmacy degree, professional registration with the GMC or General Pharmaceutical Council, and hold a Royal College membership qualification or be an accredited independent prescriber, and a proven interest in clinical pharmacology and patient safety with respect to patient medication.You will have an understanding of relevant educational theory and good practice in relation to student learning, teaching and assessment, and demonstrable experience in planning and delivering teaching sessions using a variety of strategies and modes of delivery, and in the production of high-quality learning and assessment materials aligned to learning outcomes and external regulatory requirements Further information This is a part time role (7h/w) and a fixed-term for 24 months fixed-term based in Carlisle, with some travel within Cumbria expected. If a successful candidate is based in London, they will be paid according to Imperial College London pay scale.If they are on Imperial College contract and based in Cumbria, they will be paid according to Imperial College Outside London pay scales (Salaries | Administration and support services | Imperial College London).If they are on University of Cumbria contract and seconded to Imperial College, they will be paid according to Imperial College Outside London pay scale.
