Job summary

To be a specialist clinician within their speciality.To provide Occupational Therapy within the school, with a focus on Transitions to other provisions, Activities of Daily Living and Life Skills.The prime function of the role is to provide clinical expertise in supporting the delivery of high standards of therapeutic care for the pupils of Park House School.To manage own caseload and to provide a high standard of assessment, management, treatment and advice to meet the needs of pupils.To work collaboratively with colleagues in health, social care, local authority and other agencies to meet the needs of pupils.To ensure the efficient and effective use of resources available within the team.To work with other members of the Therapy Team in the development of the service.To ensure Clinical Governance is integral to service delivery within the specialty area.To represent the Therapy Team and contribute to the development of the wider Therapy service within Park House School.

About us

Park House School, Thorney, an independent specialist school for children and young people who have special educational needs related to their social interaction and communication difficulties, is seeking to appoint a qualified teacher with experience of working with children with Autism.

Park House School is a small independent school committed to working through a therapeutic curriculum experience to enable children and young people to learn to accept and manage their social and communication difficulties as well as to achieve at an academic level appropriate to their developmental level. All 23 pupils at the school aged between 6 and 19 have an EHCP and diagnosis on the Autistic Spectrum.

Providing Occupational Therapy (OT) services to young learners with a range of relevant complex social communication difficulties.To work with the Head of Therapy and Speech and Language Therapists to identify OT goals as part of the multi-disciplinary care plan, using specialist mental health & OT assessment tools & treatment techniques.To work with pupils in a variety of settings in order to provide the most effective assessment & interventions.To plan & implement individual and/or group interventions, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.To ensure pupils health, social, cultural and spiritual needs are considered at all times.To assess for and provide equipment to enhance independence in daily living skills for pupils.To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and identify outcomes.To apply a high level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on life skills to staff.To assess the occupational needs of pupils and establish and evaluate appropriate treatment interventions.To identify appropriate & inappropriate referrals and prioritise workload.To work as part of the MDT and contribute to meetings where directed by the Head of Therapy.To oversee the work, alongside a teacher of a small team of keyworkers.

  • Professional Qualification of Occupational Therapy BSc or Equivalent
  • Current Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) Registration
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Experience

  • Experience of working with a team of dedicated and knowledgeable non-teaching staff.
  • Experience of working in partnership with parents to provide consistent routines and expectations both at home and at school
  • Experience of working within mixed professional teams
  • Some experience of managing, organising and prioritising workload and caseload need.

Desirable

  • Some experience of practice placements or working as an Occupational Therapist within different clinical settings.
  • Experience of working with children on the Autistic Spectrum Disorder
  • Experience of reviewing and writing Education and Healthcare Plans
  • Experience of working alongside a variety of professionals to deliver agreed programmes of work
