This job description is to be performed in accordance with the attached contract within the range of duties set out in that document. The post is subject to the agreed conditions of employment to the extent that they are incorporated in the post holders individual contract of employment.
The role of the Psychologist
To provide expert knowledge and support within the service to the wider school team, taking the lead on defined projects.
To supervise and mentor others, providing leadership and support, including supervision and continuing professional development to Assistant Psychologists and education staff, where appropriate.
Particular Responsibilities
Clinical:
1. To exercise professional judgment and responsibility for the psychological management of children and young people including assessment and reporting, formulation, intervention, discharge and effective communication of these plans with other professionals involved in the care of the young person.
2. To undertake psychologically based risk assessments and, in conjunction with the wider team, provide risk management for individual children and young people, and to provide advice on the psychological aspects of risk assessment and management to other professions
3. To provide consultation support and informal supervision to wider staff team, when required
4. To support provision of education and therapy in the best interest of the young person through liaison with families and external professionals as required.
5. To communicate highly effectively, adapting style to diversity of audience, demonstrating excellence in both written and verbal skills, contributing to internal and external meetings as required and supporting effective multi-disciplinary working.
6. To demonstrate a professional and ethical value base, as set out in the BPS Code of Ethics and HCPC Standard of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
Management, recruitment and development:
1. To provide appropriate professional guidance and clinical supervision to Assistant Psychologists as required.
2. To support the Principal and Head of Therapy in the recruitment of Assistant Psychologists and other staff as required.
3. To proactively develop public relations and marketing activities across the region, contributing to developing healthy constructive relationships with regulatory bodies and funders with management and promoting the reputation of Park House School.
4. To receive regular clinical supervision and line management supervision according to good practice and HCPC guidelines.
5. To provide training in relevant psychological presentations and approaches, signposting to other training opportunities as required.
6. To be responsible for managing own CPD, actively seeking out opportunities and regularly attending CPD events, both internal and external where possible, demonstrating development in clinical and management skills, and self-awareness in critically reflecting on own practice.
IT responsibilities:
To have IT training and skills to be able to use the computer for e-mails, business and clinical documents, analysis and information research.
Research and service evaluation:
1. To lead on the design and implementation of audit/research project.
2. To effectively monitor and evidence the input and impact of the psychology provision offered to young people.
3. To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes.
4. To undertake research relevant to the provision with Park House School
General
1. This job description is not exhaustive and can be altered in consultation with the post holder.
2. Any other duties, which may be requested by the line manager in order to facilitate the smooth running of the school.

The School reserves the right to amend your job description and/or your duties from time to time. You also agree that you will work with the School to deliver the Schools outputs, including without limitation, by complying with lawful and reasonable instructions from the School by adapting to new ways of working and attending training courses determined by the School from time to time.
Continuing Professional Development
To attend and contribute to staff meetings and forums, supervision sessions, training courses, seminars and workshops, to ensure the development and enhancement of current working practices.
To participate in all personal review meetings and take responsibility for personal and professional development. Responsibility for developing the role and the provision provided.
Data Protection Act
You should be aware of the Data Protection Act and follow the local Codes of Practice to ensure appropriate action is taken to safeguard confidential information.
Health and Safety
You are required to take responsibility for Health and Safety Risk Assessment and Workplace Inspections, and to take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of other persons who may be affected by his/her acts of omissions. You are also required to co-operate with all staff to ensure that all statutory regulations, policies, Codes of Practice and school safety procedures are adhered to, and to attend relevant training programmes.
Confidentiality
Your attention is drawn to the confidential aspects of this post. You must not disclose any information of a confidential nature relating to the School or the service that it provides, or in respect of which the School owes an obligation of confidence to any service user, client or third party during of after your employment except in the proper course of your employment or as required by law. You must not remove or copy any documents or tangible items including software which belongs to the School or which contain any confidential information from the Schools premises at any time without proper advanced authorisation. You must return to the School upon request and in any event upon the termination of your employment, all documents and tangible items which belong to the School or which contain or refer to any confidential information and which are in your possession or under your control. A breach of confidence could result in dismissal. You should be aware that regardless of any disciplinary action taken, a breach of confidence could also result in civil action for damages.
Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults

Smoke Free
A smoke-free policy is in operation and smoking is not permitted on any of the School premises. The policy also applies to all persons travelling in vehicles (including owned and lease cars) whilst on official business. Smoking is not permitted in privately owned vehicles that are parked on School grounds, or when transporting young people or visitors on official School business.
