We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced HCPC-registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join our growing academic team within the School of Health & Wellbeing at the University of Worcester. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape the development of our new BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice programme, including both the traditional and apprenticeship pathways, in the role of Course Leader. You will play a key part in advancing perioperative education and supporting workforce transformation.
Main duties of the job
Depending on skills and experience, the successful candidate will be appointed as either aSenior Lecturer (Teaching) & Course Leaderor aPrincipal Lecturer (Teaching) & Course Leader. At Principal Lecturer level, the postholder will also provide academic leadership to the ODP team and the wider department of Allied Health.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop BSc and apprenticeship curriculum, lead and manage the ODP subject area, including day-to-day operations and quality assurance.
- Design, deliver and assess high-quality, innovative teaching and learning materials, including blended learning approaches.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and contribute to assessment processes.
- Act as Personal Academic Tutor and support student development.
- Engage with recruitment and selection activities.
- Undertake academic administrative responsibilities and contribute to School and University committees.
- Participate in scholarly activity, CPD, and professional development.
- Promote inter-professional learning and collaboration across the School.
- Ensure inclusive, sustainable, and safe teaching practices.

To lead the development, implementation, and management of BSc and Level 6 apprenticeship Operating Department Practitioner courses, including overseeing their approval event with the Professional, Statutory, and Regulatory Body (PSRB) to ensure they meet required standards and professional regulations..
2. To design, develop, and deliver innovative learning materials and assessments for undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including blended learning approaches that align with the BSc and apprenticeship Operating Department Practitioner courses. This includes supervising student dissertations and managing assessment processes within the ODP program.
3. To provide high-quality teaching for Operating Department Practitioners and allied health students at all levels, through face-to-face, online, and practical methods, ensuring adherence to quality assurance procedures.
4. For Principal Lecturer - To contribute to leadership by managing the ODP academic team and other allied health colleagues.
5. To act as a Personal Academic Tutor, supporting ODP students' academic progression and development.
6. To take an active role in cross-School activities, including teaching and contributing to the interprofessional philosophy of the School.
7. To carry out academic administrative work and participate in relevant committees within the School, College, and University.
8. To support and contribute to practice education as requested by the Practice Education Lead/Team or nominee, ensuring effective integration of practical learning experiences.
9. To engage in and maintain personal and professional development, scholarly activity, CPD, and professional practice to underpin teaching and meet the evolving demands of the ODP role.
10. To participate in recruitment and selection activities, ensuring the attraction of high-quality candidates to the ODP program.
11. To undertake any reasonable duties requested by the Head of Department or nominee.
