This is an exciting time to join the University, as the Physician Associate MSc. Programme, which has been running successfully for several years, is now part of the Three Counties Medical School, aligning the GMC regulated programmes. Based in our state-of-the-art purpose-built healthcare campus, you will be utilising innovative teaching methodologies and working as part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to the educational needs of our students, alongside other healthcare academic and clinical academic staff in the Medical School and wider College of Health and Science.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer and Course Lead with the vision, commitment, academic ambition and capacity to contribute to the delivery of Physician Associate education.

We are looking for a clinician from an appropriate discipline (Physician Associate, Nursing and Midwifery, Allied Health or a doctor) who has a passion for developing and teaching healthcare students both academically and, in preparing to practise, and will need to be confident in delivering the underpinning knowledge they require to graduate from our highly valued PA programme.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in educational scholarship to develop their educational skills with further opportunities available to help your development as an academic in Higher Education, including support in gaining a recognised teaching qualification and a CPD programme to help you achieve Fellowship of Advance HE.

The post is full time, but may also be negotiated on a part time/ job share or secondment basis where appropriate, which will be discussed with the successful candidate.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To contribute to teaching and related activities for the Physician Associate programme and other programmes within the school as requested, drawing on own area of specialism to design teaching sessions which maximise the integration of theory to clinical practice.

2. To lead PA Programme modules as requested being responsible for the academic leadership of these modules that provide both the underpinning theoretical and applied knowledge required for clinical practice.

3. Assist with the design and delivery of the campus-based teaching contained in all modules and in-week teaching as required.

4. To design and develop innovative and inspiring learning materials and assessments.

5. To participate fully in curriculum development work including planning, development and evaluation of teaching and learning as a member of the PA teaching team.

6. To act as a Personal Academic Tutor to PA students.

7. To act as a dissertation supervisor and assess dissertations as requested.

8. To carry out academic administrative work and participate in relevant committees within the School and University.

9. To participate in annual staff development and review processes.

10. To contribute to the assessment process for students including the setting, marking and moderation of work, individually or collectively as part of a team in accordance with quality assurance procedures.

11. To undertake tutorial responsibilities, including maintaining records, for a group and/or individual students.

12. To participate fully in the life of the School, College and University, by engaging in representational and ambassadorial activities in support of the School's activities and carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of School.

Academic Leadership and Delivery

1. Communicate and work with colleagues to ensure the effective coordination and coherence of the course.

2. Working collaboratively to provide leadership to ensure effective levels of academic and pastoral support for students.

3. Ensure the effective functioning of the Student Staff Liaison Committees (SSLC).

4. Attend relevant meetings with colleagues to ensure effective delivery of the course.

5. Cultivate a supportive learning environment to ensure high retention rates and proactively address and resolve student issues.

6. Support the growth and success of the course by actively contributing to student recruitment initiatives.

Course Quality Assurance

1. Ensure that the course delivers a high-quality student experience and student/graduate outcomes as defined by the Office for Students ongoing conditions of registration related to academic quality and standards (B1-B5)

2. Ensure that the course complies with the Academic Regulations.

3. Provide leadership to ensure that all course documentation is accurate and consistent with that which has been formally approved.

4. Develop and update documents/timetables/course handbooks that support and inform course structures for the student.

5. Where courses have, or are seeking professional, statutory or regulatory body accreditation, to lead or contribute to the preparation of documentation for the purposes of approval, monitoring and/or review as appropriate.

Course Enhancement

1. Manage and coordinate the annual evaluation reporting cycle effectively to inform course evaluation and enhancement planning.

2. Contribute to high quality student experience by identifying opportunities for improvedpractices based on performance data, student feedback, module evaluations, and survey results (e.g. PTES, NSS, CES).

3. Liaise with external examiners, including responding to external examiner reports, and where appropriate, recommend individuals for appointment.

4. Contribute to the development of the schools portfolio of programmes, and the enhancement of the student experience.

Additional roles and responsibilities

The responsibilities of course leaders may be subject to additional roles and duties, which will be defined and agreed upon with the line manager in accordance with the present requirements of the department, course, and/or university.
