We are currently advertising a fantastic opportunity for an HCPC registered academic to join our team of dementia experts.

The successful candidate will join our committed and dynamic team and will work collaboratively with colleagues across ADS, The School of Allied Health and Community and the wider University. This will include the potential to contribute to other inter-disciplinary research groups and units across the University.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will engage in high quality research with internal and external partners. The post holder will also have the opportunity to utilise their expert knowledge and research to teach on existing, and develop new, accredited education and CPD programmes. There will be also be opportunities to contribute to course and module leadership, as well as supervision of student research, including doctoral supervision. All our activities are designed to impact significantly on the lives of people affected by dementia and their families.

The Association for Dementia Studies (ADS) is a Centre for Excellence in Dementia Care Research with a global reputation, based at the University of Worcester. The ADS team has developed evidence-based, practical, and person-centred ways of working with people living with dementia and their families, across the NHS England Well Pathway for Dementia. We do this through impactful, high-quality research, evidence-based education, and knowledge exchange.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Provide a leadership role for the PG Cert in Person-Centred Dementia Studies and related postgraduate provision.

2. To deliver and co-ordinate external education provision in locations across the UK and overseas when required.

3. To work with health, care and community organisations in their development of plans for implementing person-centred care through consultancy, training and follow-up.

4. To contribute to external education provision (masterclasses, short-courses/CPD and action learning sets) taking a lead on these where appropriate.

5. To develop curricula and education modules within the area of expertise.

6. Actively engage in research and scholarship in the area of dementia within the Association for Dementia Studies, collaborating with other inter-disciplinary research groups across the University.

7. Support applications for external research funding.

8. Supervise post graduate students Masters and PhD (dependent on level of qualification).

9. Develop strong working partnerships with relevant local and national bodies.

10. Accept responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable adults.

11. Participate fully in the life of the School and University, and carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of School or her/his nominee.

  • Extensive experience of working with people affected by dementia.
  • In-depth knowledge of dementia care and relevant policy initiatives.
  • Experience of Course Leadership, or Admissions Tutor role and course development.
  • Extensive experience of developing, delivering and leading dementia education and training to a range of staff in health and social care settings.
  • Evidence of teaching at HE level that demonstrates excellence and innovation, including the ability to enthuse, motivate and facilitate student learning and intellectual challenge, using a variety of methods of learning and teaching, including digital approaches to blended / online learning.
  • Evidence of high-quality research outputs, conference presentations, and related scholarly activity.
  • Track record of partnership working with a range of health and social care providers in improving the quality of person-centred dementia care practice.
  • Evidence of on-going Continuing Professional Development.
