The University of Worcester seeks to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated UK HCPC-registered Paramedic to join the Department of Social Work and Paramedic Science. The successful candidate will be an experienced practitioner with a passion for healthcare education.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will also contribute to teaching and learning and be committed to providing a high-quality experience for students.

About you:

  • You will have experience in curriculum development and innovative course design
  • Be registered with the HCPC as a Paramedic
  • Hold relevant qualification(s)
  • Have experience of supporting learners in a clinical and/or university setting
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be passionate about Paramedic Science and being a Paramedic

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To contribute to theory, skills and simulation teaching across modules and current department including BSc(Hons) Paramedic Science.

2. To lead theory, skills and simulation modules across paramedic courses.

3. To participate fully in curriculum development work including planning, development and evaluation of programmes.

4. To be involved in the delivery of Continuing Professional Development activities.

5. To contribute to the income-generating activity of the School through grant submissions and / or knowledge exchange activities.

6. To contribute to inter professional learning and teaching across the School of Allied Health and Community.

7. To design and develop innovative and inspiring learning materials and assessments individually or collectively with the paramedic team in accordance with quality assurance procedures.

8. To act as an Ambulance Hub Link, supporting students and liaising with mentors.

9. To support students via tutorials and by being a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), including maintaining records, for a group and/or individual students.

10. To act as a dissertation supervisor.

11. To carry out academic administrative work and participate in relevant committees within the Institute and University.

12. To participate in annual staff development and review processes.

13. To participate fully in the life of the Institute and University, by engaging in representational and ambassadorial activities in support of the Institutes activities and carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Institute or her / his nominee.

14. To represent the course, department and School in student recruitment activities, including participation in Clearing activities and in Open Days throughout the year.

15. To act as a mentor to colleagues and to support the development of less experienced colleagues as appropriate.

16. To undertake other responsibilities as may reasonably be required by the Head of Department and / or Head of School.

17. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.

18. Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety and well being and that of other staff and students.

19. Carry out these duties in a manner that promotes equality of opportunity and supports diversity and inclusion, and takes into account the University's commitment to environmentally sustainable ways of working.

  • A degree in a relevant subject area.
  • HCPC registration as a Paramedic, or registration as a health professional with experience or expertise in pre-hospital emergency care.

Desirable

  • Essential for appointment as Senior Lecturer (Teaching): A Higher Education teaching qualification e.g. Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education.
