Job summary

The Institute of Medicine is integral to the University of Boltons strategic aim of sustainable business growth by introducing prestige medical programmes to satisfy the increasing demands in the healthcare sector.

The Institute of Medicine comprises;

1. A Postgraduate School of Medicine

2. An Undergraduate School of Medicine

3. An Institute of ResearchOur guiding philosophy is to produce highly ethical, honest and compassionate doctors dedicated to holistic and patient-centred care driven by an environment and culture of academic excellence with student wellbeing at its core.

Our curriculum is derived from a well-established patient-centred programme from Leicester Medical School that has been shown to provide an optimum learning experience. Every aspect of it has been engineered to fully equip our students with the skills necessary to start their journey as medical practitioners.

The Undergraduate School of Medicine embraces The University of Boltons ethos of focusing on student support and wellbeing. This has allowed the University to lead the National Student Survey for Student Satisfaction for the past eight years.

We are in the process of completing our GMC application: our first intake is anticipated for September 2025.

Main duties of the job

Main Purpose of the Position

The role reports to the UG Dean and the Pro Vice Chancellor for Medical Sciences and is based in the Undergraduate School of Medicine.

The Head of the MBChB Programme will work with the Phase 1 and 2 leads to plan, manage and deliver the MBChB programme in accordance with the GMC regulations, and requirements, and taking account of advice from the schools guarantor. The role addresses all aspects of the programme, including teaching, assessment, and student support.

The Head of the MBChB Programme is a key role in the development and management of the MBChB programme. Working with the various academic, clinical and administrative staff the post holder will demonstrate, participate and contribute to our mission to promote an excellent educational environment directed at holistic, safe patient care, and the health and well-being of the local population, with an emphasis on social engagement; thus, embracing the richness of the local diverse community, in partnership with our healthcare providers.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development and planning of innovative high-quality medical undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious academic to gain leadership experience and work collaboratively with key stakeholders to support the progressive and sustainable growth of our Institute and Medical School (subject to GMC approval).
