Job summary
The National Disease Registration Service (NDRS) is part of NHS England Transformation Directorate, Data and Analytics. In partnership with other teams and groups within NHS England and beyond we provide the expertise to identify, collect, collate and quality-assure detailed and rich population-level datasets for specific diseases and conditions.
As a Registration Officer for the National Congenital Anomaly and Rare Disease Registration Service (NCARDRS), you will need to have, or be prepared to acquire, a detailed working knowledge of congenital anomalies and rare diseases in order to support the local and national team in driving the timely delivery of Disease Registration objectives in line with coding, best practice and operational objectives.
Main duties of the job
What's involved:
- You will need to acquire and maintain detailed knowledge of the current principles and procedures of congenital anomaly and rare disease registration, and the UK and European framework within which the national Register operates.
- You will clinically code and validate data from notifiers (mostly obstetric, neonatal, paediatric, and laboratory), processing records and interrogating data from electronic systems. Raise and follow up queries with data notifiers to ensure that clinical information is complete, liaising with clinical and clerical staff at all levels.
- You will conduct longer-term data follow up to enhance completeness of records and include more outcome information.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you'll usually need to be paid the 'standard' salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the 'going rate' for your job, whichever is higher.
