Job summary

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team at the heart of decision-making at NHS England; working on national programmes, but often working closely with local health systems; experimenting and implementing ideas set out in the LTP and solving cross-cutting system issues which are not limited to a specific clinical area or policy.

Working closely with colleagues across NHSE and other stakeholders Strategy Advisors will be involved in driving forward specific programme workstreams.

The position will work across a range of projects and all will include:

  • Delivering projects using core Strategy Team skills, including analytical and issue-based problem solving, and qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Project managing agreed Strategy Team projects, including management of interdependencies within NHSE and with other NHS national bodies. Ownership of specific project workstreams, seeing them through from start to end including problem-definition, analysis and communicating findings.
  • Managing stakeholder relationships and communications related to Strategy Team projects.
  • Arranging workshops and meetings and working in group situations to solve problems and build buy-in to solutions.
  • Helping to manage and mentor Strategy Analysts.

Main duties of the job

To oversee team members to deliver requirements listed above and engage and liaise with key stakeholders, in particular;

  • To support the delivery of day to day activities, projects and programmes
  • To manage team and drive delivery of a range of business initiatives and projects
  • To operate in a highly political and sensitive environment
  • Support the portfolio of initiatives in demonstrating value for money for the current spend
  • To monitor, interpret and quality assure progress against deliverables to NHS England and Improvement that often require adjustments specifically in relation to the complex corporate business agenda, strategic objectives and the business planning process
  • To develop business plans and provide expert strategic and policy advice and guidance on all areas of the National Director's portfolio

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
