Job summary
The Financial Oversight and Delivery team in the NHS England Finance and Planning Directorate is recruiting a Finance Analyst - In Year Reporting (System and Commissioner).
This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the heart of work to support the NHS. We:
- work closely with government to agree NHS funding;
- ensure the NHS lives within its annual budget;
- decide how to distribute the funding to the different NHS services and parts of England;
- support innovative programmes that improve the care and experience of NHS patients or people using NHS services;
- set out the financial and performance priorities the NHS should be delivering each year;
- report how much the NHS has spent on providing services each year;
- explore how the NHS can make the best use of its money.
As a Finance Analyst you will be a key member of the team and will play an important role supporting all aspects of the work of the team which includes:
- Oversight of the monthly financial position of the NHS
- Financial reporting template and tool design, build, distribution and collection
- Managing movements in allocations across commissioning bodies
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders
- Conducting analysis using the information that we collect
Main duties of the job
As part of this role you will work to a fixed, monthly timetable to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of the financial position. The main duties of the job are outlined in the assignment brief. Please use your application to demonstrate the following skills.
- Ability to work flexibly across the team when required. We operate a matrix working model so you will be expected to use your skills and experience to fill any shortfalls in capacity across the team as required.
- Ability to work on own initiative; organising and prioritising your own workload to set and often tight deadlines.
- Clear communication skills; the role will involve query management and issuing of national communications / guidance via a mailbox.
- Excellent IT skills including Excel and other Microsoft applications. As part of the role you will be exposed to tools and applications such as VBA, Power Automate, Power BI and Oracle (ISFE) to collect and analyse financial information and so an aptitude for learning new IT skills is essential.
- The team undertakes regular testing of reporting tools and so the ability to follow processes and attention to detail are key.
- Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working in a finance role at a similar level.
- An understanding of the NHS financial framework and processes including how funding flows in the NHS.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you'll usually need to be paid the 'standard' salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the 'going rate' for your job, whichever is higher.
