Job summary

This role will suit someone with a background in implementing the Medical Practitioners Responsible Officer Regulations or other relevant professional standards regulations. Experience supporting clinical governance systems and processes would also be an advantage for this role.

The Higher Level Responsible Officer (HLRO) team in NHS England South East Region Medical Directorate, works within a statutory framework to support healthcare organisations to make sure doctors are working within robust clinical governance structures. The HLRO Team works with designated bodies and their appointed Responsible Officers to fulfil the statutory requirements of the Medical Profession Responsible Officer Regulations.

This role includes working across the South East region, liaising with over 120 designated bodies and the senior medical leaders within those organisations responsible for the medical appraisal and revalidation of doctors.

Office based in either Reading, Southampton or Horley, with hybrid working, the post holder will be expected to spend on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person. Travel throughout the south east region and to London is required.

The HLRO team seeks a highly organised individual with capability and interest in supporting the work of senior medical leaders in their Responsible Officer role. The ideal candidate should be a confident communicator and used to working with external stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

  • To work effectively both as part of a small dynamic team and, autonomously.
  • To work confidently and proactively within the confines of NHS England's policies and procedures relating to the work of the Higher Level Responsible Officer.
  • To manage the day to day communications with Responsible Officers and their designated body teams.
  • To support the preparation of information and data for regular meetings and the following up of open actions.
  • To design and develop databases and spreadsheets for the analysis of information and data collected and held by the HLRO team.
  • To support Responsible Officer medical appraisal allocation and to liaise with medical appraisers.
  • To provide high quality administrative support for quality review visits to designated bodies
  • To support the organisation and delivery of quarterly virtual and in-person network meetings for Responsible Officers and their teams.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
