Job summary

Through the seven regional teams, NHS England supports local integrated care systems, made up of public services that provide health and care to improve the health of the population, improve the quality of care, tackle inequalities and deliver care more efficiently.

The North East and Yorkshire Digital Transformation Team has a key role to play in the successful delivery of national, regional and local digital programmes.

We oversee the North East and Yorkshire current digital strategic agenda and national programmes that have regional and system involvement by:

  • Working in close partnership with the Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) to support the aims of the digital and data transformation agendas
  • Being recognised by all our partners as delivering consistent, high-quality and valuable support, advice and guidance to the digital transformation process.
  • Engaging all key stakeholders across the health and care system to work effectively together to improve patient outcomes and address inequalities.
  • Collaborating with partner organisations to deliver a wide range of transformation programmes under the Transformation Directorate portfolio to bring about benefits to healthcare communities.

This team is also leading on new and emerging programmes of work in innovative technology that will contribute to the ambitions for the NHS to tilt towards technology and to unlock productivity.

Main duties of the job

AI has emerged as a transformative force in healthcare, offering a multitude of benefits that have the potential to enhance patient care, optimise healthcare systems, and reduce costs.

Across the North East and Yorkshire region we know there are pockets of innovative uses of AI, but no single view across the region. The Head of Digital Transformation will initially work to understand current applications, limitations, safety concerns and potential growth of AI in healthcare.

The Head of Digital Transformation will be responsible for:

  • Working in support of the Regional Director: Digital Transformation with understanding emerging priorities across the digital and data transformation agenda
  • Horizon scanning and understanding new innovative technology to support moving health and care from analogue to digital
  • Overseeing delivery of national and regional strategic priorities coordinating programmes of work across regional and local footprints
  • Planning and designing programmes of work with health systems and proactively managing overall progress
  • Ensuring strong links and relationships with the Integrated Care Boards, external organisations and national teams working in digital transformation
  • The provision of an efficient, effective and high quality professional and well-co-ordinated Digital Transformation service capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements ensuring alignment with the activity of the organisation

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
