Our new operating model represents a strong shift to regional delivery supported by expert corporate teams. Local health systems are supported by our integrated regional teams who play a major leadership role in the geographies they manage.

This is a role will support the directorate to deliver on its quality and patient safety objectives for the region.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide senior specialist patient safety advice and lead on safety related activities as well as playing a key role in providing clinical quality advice and support to the Heads of Quality, ensuring a seamless quality response for the areas that they oversee. They will also advise other staff on safety issues and wider clinical quality issues.The post holder will be able to demonstrate significant knowledge and experience of patient safety and quality systems across the NHS and will have extensive knowledge of specialist areas.

Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people/organisations/groups and skilled in implementing change.

This role requires the post holder to be able to analyse and interpret complex quality information, both quantitative and qualitative, lead on the development of quality and safety reports for regular and ad hoc meetings and support improvement programmes at regional, ICB and provider level.

  • The post holder will contribute to the delivery of NHSEs priorities in line with the Long-Term Plan and the Operating framework.
  • Support effective stakeholder collaboration across different departments and at all levels, maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, such as key strategic regional and national policy makers, inside and outside of NHSE.
  • To provide credible and visible professional leadership, supporting and assuring ICBs and whole system work on improving quality safety & patient experience.
  • Support the Head of Nursing and Deputy Head of Nursing with delivery of Nursing priorities and work streams.
  • Operational lead on review of data / intelligence related to portfolio areas to identify risk issues and ensure appropriate actions are taken to mitigate.
  • Monitoring and establishing accountability on the overall progress of the portfolio areas to ensure completion within agreed timescales.
  • Manage and actively promote the relationships with key stakeholders In particular, the post holder will work with the ICBs, regulators and educators to ensure that the local system delivers safe high-quality care.
  • Lead on internal quality governance processes for NHSEs regulatory functions.
  • Operational management of the regional nursing risk register.
  • Oversight of the ICB primary care complaints function as part of the National Oversight Framework.
  • Deliver on aspects of delivery of the National Patient Safety Strategy.
