Job summary
The Finance and Planning Directorate in NHS England is looking for talented, diverse, highly motivated people to join the Financial Oversight and Delivery team as a Finance Manager Financial Oversight and Delivery - workstream: Financial Planning and Reporting (Direct Commissioning, Specialised Commissioning and Provider).
This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the heart of the NHS. In the Finance and Planning directorate we:
- ensure the NHS lives within its annual budget set by Parliament.
- set out the financial and performance priorities the NHS should be delivering each year.
- report how much the NHS has spent on providing services each year.
As a Finance Manager you will be a key member of NHS England Financial Oversight and Delivery team and will play an important role in the following work:
- Work on a range of tasks and processes within an evolving timetable designed to collect, and report on, the financial plans of the NHS. This is a highly process-driven role, working in line with tightly-managed deadlines.
- Engagement with a range of relevant stakeholders. This includes responding by e-mail to helpdesk queries, and sending out national communications to NHS organisations.
- Work on the design, build, testing, publication of financial planning templates, tools and technical guidance.
- Work on the design, build, testing, publication of financial planning reports and tools. To undertake detailed plan data analytical reviews.
Main duties of the job
In your application, please demonstrate your experience in the following areas:
- You are required to be a qualified accountant, or part-qualified finalist, or have equivalent experience in the provider / commissioner NHS sectors.
- You are expected to work autonomously within an evolving timetable designed to collect, and report on, the financial plans of the NHS. You will be required to work with minimal supervision, and where you must ensure tasks are completed in line with tightly-managed deadlines. Please explain your experience of following, developing and implementing processes.
- You are expected to engage with relevant stakeholders. This includes responding to queries, and sending out national communications to NHS organisations. Please explain your experience in stakeholder engagement, including construction of concise, well-written e-mails.
- Work on the design, build, testing, publication of financial planning templates, tools and guidance. The team requires all leads to have EXCEL skills to an advanced level. Please evidence your current skills.
- Work on the design, build, testing, publication of financial planning reports and tools. To undertake detailed plan data analytical reviews. The team currently use PowerBI and EXCEL for our reporting and analytical work, in conjunction with Alteryx for data transformation. Please evidence your skills in the use of data transformation and analytical applications.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you'll usually need to be paid the 'standard' salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the 'going rate' for your job, whichever is higher.
