Job summary

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join the Regional Nursing Team as Assistant Director of Nursing (IPC) . This role will be a key member of the Leadership and Quality team working across the region's Nursing and Medical directorate.

The successful candidate will be a credible leader with extensive experience in provider and/or system leadership within the role of IPC . They will be skilled in transformational leadership, system change management, strategy development, governance and assurance, and have experience of holding a wider leadership portfolio.

This role will have a key responsibility in leading transformational change identified by national and regional priorities as well as working with systems to identify areas of prioritisation to support improvement.

As Assistant Director of Nursing - Infection Prevention and Control, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting IPC across the South West region.

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the South West region, working in close partnership with regional teams as well as across system partners including Integrated care Boards, Integrated care systems, integrated care partnerships. Main duties of the job

The IPC team will consist of a Band 9 Deputy Director of Nursing/ Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control and an 8d Associate Director of Nursing

The post forms a key part of the NHS England South West clinical leadership team. The post holder will provide credible, effective and visible leadership and will make a corporate contribution in achieving implementation of NHS England strategy and the Vision for Nurses, Midwives and Care Givers, actively supporting the Director of Nursing of Leadership and Quality.

The IPC service will provide expert advice to NHS England South West and the 7 ICS's in the South West. The service leads on the development of IPC strategies within the South West whilst contributing to the development of national policy and guidance. The service is responsible for ensuring IPC improvements and oversight of Infection related matters. The post holder will also have a key role in supporting implementation of the South West infection management strategies.

The post holder will supporting the Deputy Director of Nursing/DIPC in developing an effective strategy and operational policies for promoting innovation across Cluster and Sector. Working closely with colleagues across the sector, ensuring coherent strategy and will:

  • Support driving the strategy for supporting and ensuring alignment across the system.
  • Drive reform and support organisational change and uptake of initiatives that support excellence.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and leadership for infection prevention and control.
  • Develop and communicate the vision for the role of innovation, and the development of strategy and operational policies to support this vision.
  • Engage with key strategic regional and national policy makers to inform development of strategy and policies.
  • Identify examples of national and international best practice and to ensure that NHS England benefits from relevant innovations in healthcare.
  • Support development by developing the innovation infrastructure and capacity in organisations.
  • Develop and champion new initiatives or projects as necessary.
  • Work with providers and clinical experts to design new training products.
  • Provide expertise of best practice methodologies regulatory requirements, policy imperatives, innovation and technological developments and stakeholders knowledge.
  • Provide clinical advice into all Directorates within NHS England South West.
